Oracle VM Server for SPARC 3.4 Released!

By: Jeff Savit | Product Management Senior Manager

We are pleased to announce the release of Oracle VM Server for SPARC
3.4, which has been delivered as part of Oracle Solaris 11.3 SRU 8.7. Together,
they provide new features for virtualization, performance,
security, scalability, and system management.

Oracle VM Server for SPARC 3.4 introduces several new
capabilities, including the following:

  • The virtual HBA (vHBA) method of doing I/O introduced with Oracle VM
Server for SPARC 3.3 has been enhanced to better support I/O resiliency,
    multi-pathing, monitoring and large configurations.
  • Verified boot can be used to enhance guest domain security by verifying signed boot blocks and kernel modules.
  • Trusted guest domains can be permitted to assign alternate MAC addresses and VLAN IDs, especially for domains running OpenStack.
  • Inter-vnet-link Logical Domain Channels (LDCs) are automatically enabled unless more than a tunable number of virtual network devices are on a virtual switch, in order to conserve use of LDCs.
  • The number of LDCs has been increased to a maximum of 4096, for further scalability.
  • Device properties for InfiniBand SR-IOV devices can now be modified without domain reboot.
