SPWA - Supply Planning Work Area - An Alternative To The ASCP Planner Workbench, Functionally Speaking

Jeff Goulette
Sr Technical Director

12.2.5 VCP introduces a new form for users that is an alternative to the planner workbench.  The standard Planner Workbench is still available and will not be removed from the applications.  Supply Planning Work Area (SPWA) is fully operational.  We have added many features/capabilities which are not available from Planners Work Bench (PWB).

12.2.8 version, User Interface, Supply Planning Work Area (SPWA) FOLDER > Show Field not Displaying All Available Fields Initially.  When trying to add fields to the Supply Chain Workbench, the first time I select Folder > Show Field, the list of fields is less than after I go into the Pegging region and select Refresh Supply/Demand.

  • Before Refresh 157 fields available
  • After Refresh 173 fields available

I should have access to all fields initially, I should not have to refresh.  If I go into the Pegging region, right-click on a row and select Refresh Supply/Demand, the columns then show up.

Extra folder fields visible after selecting pegging node followed by 'Refresh Supply/Demand' are context driven most of the time.  'Org' and 'Item' fields are always visible and hence, 'Folder' >> 'Show Field' will not list them.  The 'Item' field displayed in the LOV Clicking on Refresh Supply / Demand belongs to a place holder meant for internal purpose and can be safely ignored.

Following are the options to see the full item name:

1) When you select a row in supply/demand, you can note the full item name from pegging tree.
2) Once you refresh the supply/demand from pegging tree, you will be able to see the field 'Item' from 'Folder' >> Show Field.  Select this field and (optionally rename the prompt by 'right clicking on the header) and save the layout as a default folder.  This will retain this field for future navigation to 'Supply/demand'.

Here are couple of points that you may consider to understand the existing design.

  1. Though one can enable as many item segments as desired on the EBS instance, Planning UIs are designed to show Max. 250 chars of the concatenated segments. (please note that Navigator tree and Pegging tree can show max 80 chars).  Please note that 'Description' field is available on the movable region and it supports 240 chars.
  2. Item Field is not wide enough to show Full 250 chars, user is supposed to scroll to see the rest of the Item name.  This is as per the existing design.  It is not feasible to increase the field width for this field or move it to some other section.
  3. Some of the fields are shown after 'Refresh Supply/demand' from Pegging tree, this again is part of existing design and not feasible to make them visible all the time.  If one needs any/all of these fields to be available by default, one should add them to the default folder.
