Lady Gaga, Vince Vaughn, and ComEd just did something incredible in Lake Michigan

“Jana Jones had a problem,” a recent Greentech Media article began. The piece went on to describe how Jana is helping ComEd revolutionize its customer engagement strategy, which she oversees. But it could just as well have referred to the fact that she was days away from jumping into a freezing lake. Like nearly 350 ComEd employees and supporters — including some of us at Opower — Jana Jones is a Polar Plunge enthusiast. Last weekend, the ComEd crew joined Lady Gaga, Vince Vaughn, and 4,500 others who dove courageously into Lake Michigan’s freezing depths to support Special Olympics Chicago, the world’s largest sports training program and competition for adults with intellectual disabilities. ComEd alone raised over $146,000 for the plunge, which it also helped sponsor. And in step with ComEd tradition, Jana and the Opower team arrived in costume, sporting Power Rangers outfits that made the local news. comed polar plunge 2 When the folks at ComEd aren’t braving icy waters for a good cause, they’re giving people across Chicago and Illinois the tools they need to take control of their energy use. It’s part of ComEd’s broader goal to create a premier customer experience — one that’s centered on delivering the right message, to the right customers, at precisely the right time. At Opower, we’re building a technology platform to help ComEd succeed. comed polar plunge 3 Earlier this year, Jana Jones shared ComEd’s vision for deeply personalized customer engagement at PowerUp, which brought together more than 300 of the world’s top utility innovators. She also talked about it in an interview with us last August. From our shared programs to the Polar Plunge, we’re proud of what we’ve accomplished with our partners at ComEd. We look forward to diving even deeper in the year ahead. comed polar plunge 4
