What Error Messages Reveal

I love this blog entry "Usability doesn't mean UI". Especially this part:
Ask for a list of all error messages when you do your next vendor evaluation. You will learn more about the vendor's commitment to usability and product quality than you will fathom from a slick demo.
Not so sure about the part about error messages not being "hip" or "glamorous" though.
I know... I should get out more...:)
