Interesting comment from Rob Graham from iMediaConnection “There are plenty of creative people all around the world who now have access to media development tools never before available. They have direct access to new broadcast channels never before available. It's only a matter of time before these upstarts sets the traditional television, movie, music, radio broadcast world on their ears.”
Well a couple week ago, RadioHead dropped a bombshell on the music industry announcing their new album “In Rainbows” will be released directly from their official web site. Even more interesting, people can download the album for any price they want to pay, including free :-)
From The Seminal, "In Rainbows sold approximately 1.2 million copies as of October 12th. In comparison, that’s more albums sold in the first week than Radioheads’ last three releases combined. According to an Internet poll of 3,000 people, the average price paid for In Rainbows was $8. If these numbers are accurate, Radiohead has made close to $10 million in one week on this album alone."
Amazing, well this may just be the beginning :-) I was just reading that over the next 3 years it is expected that more content is going to be generated than over the last 40,000 years of mankind existence! (from UC Berkeley School of Information Management)
Even more interesting, with upcoming 20mbps symmetrical broadband connection and low-cost Terabytes storage appliances everyone will soon be able to distribute and monetize content from their own home. So, should we care if the content is viewed from an iPhone, gPhone or mPhone? The Network is You!
