Has {Insert Name} sold out to Microsoft?

Interesting news in the last few weeks.

We see that OSDL is confirming rumours about working closer with Microsoft. Does this mean they've sold out to Microsoft and are now their puppets? Of course not.

We also see that IBM has settled with Microsoft for about US$775 million. Does this mean that they've sold out to Microsoft and are now their puppets? Of Course not.

So why is it that when Sun Settled with Microsoft for around US$2 billion (and some other agreements), that all the talk is about how Microsoft controls everything we do and we have sold out?

How is this different? I've seen nothing about either of the first two selling out and being controlled. What makes them different?
