Netbeans Java Language Infrastructure

Whilst building the "Coherence Netbean Plug-in" I decided to work with the Netbeans "Java Language Infrastructure" which although reasonably well documented did not have the answers to all my questions. So given that and as a memory jogger for myself in future I have decide to put together this short blog that will show how to write the java, that uses the Java Language Infrastructure, required for the generating the Coherence Code as described in "Coherence Netbean Plug-in".

Cloning a VirtualBox Image (vdi)

Following on from my previous blog entry where I described how to install Oracle 11.2.0 on Ubuntu 10.10 in a VirtualBox I will quickly describe how we can clone this image and hence reduce the rebuild time. What I tend to do is create a backup copy of my vdi files that I can return to later and I will assume that you have one of these within this entry and it is called Ubuntu10.10-32BitOracle11g.vdi.

Installing Oracle 11g (11.2.0.1) DB On Ubuntu 10.10 32 Bit

Having recently created an Ubuntu 10.10 VirtualBox image for my Oracle 11.20 databse installation I have decided to bring my notes together as a simple blog entry that I hope will allow other people to quickly do the same. The reason for this entry is because the information required to successfully complete the installation is spread around the documention. Hence I felt some short concise, I hope, instructions would be useful. I assume that the user does have an understanding of Ubuntu and Oracle database installation and hence do not go into details on all the commands.

Oracle Coherence A Netbeans Plug-in

Recently I have been working with the Oracle Coherence product and noticed that when using the, recommended, POF Serialization functionality I seem to be writing a lot of similar code. When using POF Serialization you need to implement the PortableObject interface and write a readExternal and a writeExternal method which deserialize and serialize the class properties respectively.

Now this can become a bit tedious so to improve my NetBeans development environment I decided to implement a some auto generation functionality to take away the need to manually create these methods. In addition to the generation of the POF methods I also implemented an alternative that generates an Inner Serializer class and its associated methods, as defined in Alek Soevic's book "Oracle Coherence 3.5", the final part of the plug-in is the ability to create and run Coherence cluster nodes from within NetBeans.  At the moment I have built this plugin within NetBeans 6.9, but it runs fine on 6.10, and it can be downloaded from the NetBean Plugin Portal.

The rest of this blog entry will describe the functionality provided and how to create and configure a Coherence instance within Netbeans.
