Sun Fire X4500 Disk Planner

I find it hard to do any work with a Sun Fire X4500 without a drawing of how I am trying to lay the disks and file systems out. I created this to help me..I hope it helps you!

Note that c5t0d0 and c5t4d0 are hardwired as the only disks that can be boot disks.

Comments:

Is it a good idea to have your mirrored boot drives both on the same controller?

I agree that it does not look right instinctively, but the design team tell me that the chances of a controller failing are very small.

Hi,
Im investigating putting the Boot Environment on external disks (S1 arrays). c5t0d0 and c5t4d0 can then be used for ZFS as the rest of the disks, right?

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel. I have checked on this and you can only boot off internal disks c5t0d0 and c5t4d0. This behavior is hardwired. Rgds, Tim
