Password expiry ORA-28002 error

A few customers have noticed this message in their startup logs:

[com.mchange.v2.async.ThreadPoolAsynchronousRunner$PoolThread-#2] INFO (v2.c3p0.SQLWarnings) ORA-28002: the password will expire within x days

java.sql.SQLWarning: ORA-28002: the password will expire within x days

This is affected by a setting in the database that controls the users profile. If you do want this behavior your DBA will need to do the following:

1. Logon to the product database as the SYSTEM user (not the application administration user).

2. Find the profile that has the PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME set to anything but UNLIMITED

select * from dba_profiles where RESOURCE_NAME LIKE 'PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME';

3. Alter the profiles with the following statement:

ALTER PROFILE profile_name LIMIT PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME UNLIMITED;

where profile_name is the name of the profile where your need to set the password life to UNLIMITED.

This should remove the password life message.

After receiving 28002, I changed the PASSWORD_LIFE_TIME to unlimited then did a commit yet still recevied the warning when logging into sqlplus as that user. I had to change the password before the error would clear. I re-used the same password that I had originally, like: sqlplus> password Old password: fred New password: fred Retype new password: fred * Note: replace fred with your real password ;)
