Swing, ImageUploader, Trees

A cute little newish project you may not have seen is the ImageUploader project over at java.net. Its a cross-platform Swing application (screenshot) for selecting images to upload, as the name hints at, complete with drag and drop from native file explorers, roll-over effects, image preview. When the time comes up upload multiple files, it POSTs them over to a URL, complete with reassuring progress indicators. Its under BSD, and even the Janitor could easily check the repo, compile it in NetBeans and have it running within minutes.

Nice, especially as an applet, if you need image upload on your website.

Of course it has a customized version of JTree. Something not commonly available on mobile phones, unless of course, you include LWUIT in your application, in which case, its relatively easy to build down off the LWUIT composite Container model and build your own, as you can see explained in detail here.
Comments:

Indeed the application does look cool, but I just could not get the images to upload. A small demo of how to process the uploaded information might be helpful. In this case I'm running a PHP server and I can't identify the uploaded info cause the uploaded files do not come with normal web form name identification. I pray someone can post a simple processing script one can work with.

Each parts has the original file name. For example:

<?php
foreach ($_FILES as $key => $value) {
if ($_FILES[$key]["error"] == 0) {
move_uploaded_file($_FILES[$key]["tmp_name"],$_FILES[$key]["name"]);
}
}
?>

Thanks for the quick response. Code works like a charm. Now its time to expand it and pimp it up

Wish I had of known about this about 6 months ago - but maybe it didn't exist then.

Anyway, for those who don't require free/open-source, I developed the "Upload Ease" file/image uploader applet. It supports many advanced features like compression, hashing, thumbnail generation and other image contraint operations, folder uploads, etc.

Also, it is easy to integrate, with comprehensive help available on the website.

Even better, I've tried to keep the price to a bare minimum!

Comments welcome...

Version 1.2 of UploadEase has just been released and is available for download from our website.

It now supports dynamic text or image watermarking, UI customisation of colors, text and logos for matching website themes and internationalisation, enhanced one-off and per file form variable upload controls, and the ability to abort/cancel an upload in progress.

It doesn't get much better than this!

UploadEase 1.3 is now complete and ready to download!

Highlights include:

\* Image quality/compression, progressive mode, and scale hint options
\* Dynamic thumnail/constrained image generation via callbacks
\* Scalable text and image watermarks
\* Enhanced cookie support for automatically copying cookies from the browser, manually specifying multiple cookies, and specifying the cookie management policy

In addition we have identified and fixed all known bugs in the 1.2 release - not that there were many :-).

Please refer to the download page and reference documentation for more information and examples.

By dividing the living rooms into equal squares, it turns out that for most games, many of the squares contain unused toys that can be safely put away.http://www.watchgy.com/
