JavaFX: Widgets and Predictions

In the buildup to the 1.0 release of the JavaFX SDK, currently available in preview, your Janitor is starting to sense some excitement. Not least because some people have proclaimed that JavaFX wouldn't make it this far. But then, we've become somewhat used to regular predictions of the demise of Java since its birth.

So seeing the recent JDJ article assert that JavaFX 'could change the way programs are developed' was nice. But nicer was Joe's reality check, that the only way to form an opinion is to try it yourself.

Which is exactly what the folks behind WidgetFX are doing, taking Josh (from the JavaFX team)'s Java widgets project and JavaFX-ifying it. An emerging repository of great looking, lightweight, open source desktop widgets written in JavaFX with a one click install, that run on a variety of OSs.

And soon, devices :)
