Oracle Solaris Cluster 3.3 5/11 released today !

Oracle announces Oracle Solaris Cluster 3.3 5/11 delivering unrivaled High Availability (HA) on the Oracle Solaris OS for the largest selection of enterprise applications and databases. Oracle Solaris Cluster unique HA solution for Oracle Solaris' virtual environments lowers the inherent risk of consolidated infrastructures by leveraging redundancy to protect from outages. Oracle Solaris Cluster Disaster Recovery (DR) option extends these benefits to multi-site, multi-cluster architectures to protect against planned and unplanned downtime, in physical and virtual environments.

• Sub-second failure detection and shorter service recovery time through Oracle Solaris kernel-level integration
• Increases service levels in virtual environments based on Oracle Solaris Containers and Oracle VM for SPARC
• Delivers secure cluster wide virtual environment with fault and resource isolation and separate administrative domain
• Out-of-the-box support of extensive set of leading applications and databases eliminating lengthy scripting to deploy application in a clustered environment.
• High Availability for key enterprise application in pre-tested, pre-engineered optimized solutions with Oracle Sun SPARC and x86 servers and Sun storage
   ("optimized solutions" linked to http://www.oracle.com/us/solutions/optimized-solutions-171609.html)
• Significantly reduced recovery time in disaster situation through automated take over by surviving sites

New features include :

- Oracle ACFS and Oracle's Sun ZFS Storage appliance as NFS server
- Extended Cluster validation tool for easier diagnosability
- New versions of enterprise applications including Oracle Database and SAP
supported in Oracle Solaris Container clusters
- DR : Oracle Solaris ZFS supported with storage based replication, Oracle Dataguard

New White Paper - How to Optimize Oracle Solaris Applications for Intel Platforms

It has been awhile since I have blogged as well as having some writers block during my Sun to Oracle transition. I was fortunate to land in Solaris where I was prior-which I am so thankful for.  In my new role at Oracle working on the Solaris Technical Content Team - I am focused on delivering Solaris technical content for Virtualization and Security- working with some excellent people by the way!

I wanted to give an inside to some new cool collateral that is being delivered by others from my team.  Mike Mulkey, one of my partners in crime just worked with a team of folks at Oracle and Intel on delivering How to Optimize Oracle Solaris Applications for Intel Platforms.

This is a technical guide for developers and sysadmins that explains how to use the capabilities of Solaris to optimize the scalability, performance, reliability, security, power efficiency, and virtualization of applications running on Intel's Xeon processor family (5600 and 7500 series).

Here is a snapshot of what the paper touches on. This paper discusses the major Solaris capability and describes how it has been optimized. For example ...

  • How Solaris enhances Intel multicore processor capabilities—up to 8 processor sockets, each with up to 8 cores and 2 threads per core—as well as Intel Hyper-Threading, QuickPath, and Turbo Boost technologies.
  • How Solaris Fault Management Architecture (FMA) integrates with the Intel Machine Check Architecture (MCA) Recovery features, enabling systems to automatically monitor, report, and recover from hardware errors to maintain data integrity and keep missioncritical applications and services online.
  • How Solaris takes advantage of the dynamic power management capabilities of the Intel processors.
  • How Solaris takes advantage of the latest Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) features and enables the highest consolidation ratios.

To download white paper it is available on this page

About

I will be sharing some cool things happening at Oracle, technology updates and maybe even some videos. I am also very passionate about life and Water Sports...
