ALT DESCR

In addition to our regular Thursday slot, Harpreet and Srikanth will present GlassFish v2.1 during an extra webinar this Tuesday, at 11am PT. GFv2.1 is the latest (announcement) release in the GFv2 family; with over 400 bug fixes (since GFv2UR2) GFv2.1 is the basis for SailFin and it is a recommended upgrade.

Slides, other material and, later, recordings, will be posted to the Wiki Page; we encourage your participation during the presentation via the chat room.

Feb 12th Webinar - GlassFish ASAdmin

ALT DESCR

This week's webinar is on Thursday, Feb 12th, 11:00 am PT. Jane and Kedar will give an overview of ASAdmin, the GlassFish CLI console. ASadmin provides the same functionality as in the GUI console but it is often more adequate for automation.

Note - This topic was initially scheduled for Jan 22nd. New material since then includes a section based on GlassFish v3 a discussion on the architectural benefits of ASadmin.

Slides and other material will be posted to the Presentation Page. We encourage your participation during the presentation and recordings will be available later.

Feb 5th Webinar - XWiki and GlassFish

This week's webinar is the first of a new, occasional, GlassFish Partner Series.

ALT DESCR

This week's webinar is on Thursday, Feb 5th, 11 am PT. Vincent Massol will provide an overview of XWiki, the java-based, OpenSource Wiki and collaboration platform. XWiki is supported on GlassFish and is used in curriki and in the new (in progress) OpenSolaris.org Site.

I've asked Vincent to also include a comparison with Atlassian Confluence, as that's what it is currently being used in Wikis.Sun.Com. Time permitting we will also discuss Vincent's experience embedding GFv3 into XWiki, and Alexis would join us for that segment.

Slides and other material will be posted to the Presentation Page; as usual, we encourage your participation through questions and recordings of the presentations will be made available later.

Added Jacob Kessler will be the host for this presentation because I have a last minute conflict.

Jan 22nd Webinar - ASAdmin, the CLI Console for GlassFish

ALT DESCR

This week's webinar is on Thursday, Jan 22th, 11:00 am PT. Jane Young (and guests) will provide an overview of ASAdmin, the GlassFish CLI console (v2, v3). Asadmin enables the same functionality in the GUI console but in a format that is often more adequate for automation. Asadmin has bee described as "GlassFish's hidden gem"...

Slides and other material will be posted to the Presentation Page; as usual, we encourage your participation through questions before or during the presentation via the companion chat. As usual, recordings of the presentations will be made available later.

Added - Due to technical difficulties I could not host the webinar and it will be rescheduled. It is currently penciled in for Thu, Feb 19th.

MySQL and GlassFish Webinars - Sailfin, JRuby, High Availability, and more

In the last few months Sun has expanded significantly our online outreach efforts and we currently have (at least :-)) three Webinar series that cover the GlassFish products. Going through them:

ALT DESCR

The MySQL webinars are polished presentations that are broadcasted in high-quality and targeted at specific busines needs. Future presentations include Binod on MySQL and SailFin and Arun on JRuby, NetBeans and GlassFish. These presentations are also available for Replay.

A very similar series is the new Software Webinar series. Future events include OpenSSO and MDM; replays available include GlassFish HA and more.

Finally, we also have our weekly TheAquarium Online. These Community presentations, broadcasted using uStream.TV are more informal and technical.

Recordings from Jersey / JAX-RS Webinars Now Available

I've been recording our weekly TheAquarium Online Webinars for the last few months using the uStream.TV facilities and I recently spent some time processing the material into different formats and organizing it in the Wiki pages. It is still work in process and I keep learning more about how to do things, but I think last week's presentation is ready for feedback; others will follow in future weeks.

ALT DESCR

The recordings for the Jan 15th, 2009 Webinar on JAX-RS, Jersey and REST are now available. This Webinar set included presentations by Marc Hadley and Paul Sandoz, a set of 5 short screencasts, and very good audience participation.

The recordings are available in several formats, including FLV, Quicktime, iPod(320x240) and Audio only; full links are available at the Recording Page which is automatically included into the Show page. We are planning to upload the audio to iTunes and the screencasts to youTube "soon".

The format of these Webinars has changed over time as we have tried to adjust to the new, online-only, format. Feedback, as well as additional technical and broadcasting tips, on the show content and format are always welcome - I started knowing nothing about these areas. Note - I'm specially interested in a good way to transcode the SWF-based screencasts to a more manageable format like quicktime (for MacOS X, w/o loss of resolution, and cheap).

Next Webinar set is this Thursday, on ASadmin, the GlassFish CLI Console. More details in a separate posting.

Free Webinars - We recently hosted a free online Webinar on High Availability (e.g see this old registration link). The webinar was very popular; see John report. We will host other webinars, so stay tuned (and register!).

As an update, as of this morning there have been over 330K registrations of GlassFish Servers: 294,501 for GFv2 and already 39,138 for GFv3.

Wanted - Your Suggestions for TheAquarium Online

This week was the tenth "webinar" at TheAquarium Online - or 32, if you count each of the GFv3 Prelude Launch Event presentations separately.

ALT DESCR

The full set of presentations is:

OSGi Overview
WebSynergy
Grizzly and Grizzly 2
EJB 3.1
SocialSite and OpenSocial

Many Languages, One Machine
GFv3 Prelude Overview in Spanish
GFv3 Prelude Special Event
Scripting in GFv3 Prelude
Seam and GlassFish

The format of the event has evolved over time and I'm now selecting a topic and then arranging a set of several shorter presentations and/or speakers around it (like with Seam and GlassFish). We record all the presentations and publish the slidedecks and screencasts. I think the arrangement is working well; but we are always interested in your comments. felt

Also, if you have suggestions for topics, please add them as comments to the Ideas and Suggesions page in our Wiki.
