Vote for Atlassian Formal Support of JIRA on GlassFish

ALT DESCR

JIRA is a very popular package from Atlassian for bug tracking, issue tracking, & project management. It has run fine on GlassFish for a while but it is not formally supported.

Given our Recent Download Numbers and other Adoption Indicators, I think that sooner and later Atlassian will add support but, you can Cast your Vote and speed up the process. Note you will need to get a JIRA account and log in. Thanks!

Of course, what I'd like is for JIRA to switch to using GlassFish as their embedded web server (they use Tomcat now), but I know that will take a bit longer. Maybe when v3 is out.

Good Idea !!

Hi,

The first thing that we'd need to do if we were to formally support Glassfish for use with Atlassian products would be able to use it with our integration testing framework which uses Cargo for bringing up containers, installing wars and tearing them back down again. I had a brief look at doing this a few months ago when I was fixing a Glassfish specific bug in Confluence and it didn't appear trivial to accomplish. There appears to be an initial start to a Glassfish deployer for Cargo but it doesn't look anywhere near ready for prime time at the moment. Without an easy way for us to validate the operation of our products with Glassfish it makes it hard for us to say that you can expect the same level of quality while running under it (at least this is true for the Confluence team). Of course there are other factors (the popularity of the app server and demand for support; we certainly don't see any sort of massive interest in supporting GF) but having to go really far out of our way to test with the container certainly doesn't help at this point in time.

The relevant Cargo issue is at http://jira.codehaus.org/browse/CARGO-491

Cheers,
Chris

Thanks for the follow-up, Chris. I'll check on Cargo. I thought that we had done it earlier, but it seems we didn't.

re: popularity -- We will get there :-). The downloads are there, the deployments will follow.

Yepp, JIRA is a great Software, support for GlassFish would be desireable.

Eduardo - thanks for the post! Let's see how many people vote. I would say that votes aren't the only thing we look at though - especially in terms of official support.

As Chris says - for us, things like how many customers actually _use_ Glassfish are important but I realise this is a chicken and egg situation. Right now, we just don't see a lot of requests for Glassfish support internally but we'll keep monitoring it diligently.

Thanks for following-up, Mike. Initial check is that we had done a first attempt at integration with Cargo but we didn't complete/pushed that out. We will revisit that next. - eduard/o
