Remembering Ken Cavanaugh

Our friend and Sun/Oracle colleague Ken Cavanaugh passed away last Thursday.

Ken was a patient, dedicated and talented engineer and better known to many as Mr. CORBA. He has shared with many of us in the GlassFish team his core values and will be remembered as a distinguished engineer and a true gentleman.

Our condolences go to Ken's wife Linda and son Ian and to all his friends. If you knew Ken or had interacted with him, please consider writing a note. You'll also find the scholarship fund created in his memory here.

Comments:

Ken was a friend and mentor to many of us here at Oracle, especially those of us who knew him from Sun Microsystems. He devoted over 15 years to the organization.

His efforts in the area of distributed computing, particularly with CORBA and IIOP have certainly helped improve Java and Java EE. In addition to leading work on the GlassFish ORB, Ken presented at conferences, including JavaOne. Ken is also listed as inventor, or co inventor, on 20 published patents (and maybe a few more, still in progress).

We were indeed lucky to have had the benefit of his friendship and leadership. Ken, we'll miss you.
