JCP EC Candidate List

Two important weeks for the JCP ahead. The nominations for the EC closed Thursday last week (see Heather's call for nominations), and the vote runs from tomorrow until November 1st. Then we have the changeover on Nov 2-15th and the new EC members will take over on Nov 16th.

The elections are for both (ME and SE/EE) Executive Committees. The JCP 2 Process describes two types of seats. Ratified seats are nominated by Oracle, and "a nominee is ratified by a simple majority of those who cast a vote". Open seats are self-nominated and "the nominees who receive the most votes will fill the vacant seats".

Heather just announced all the candidates:

Java ME EC:

Ratified Seat Candidates: Research in Motion; Samsung; TOTVS.
Open Seat Candidates: Stefano Andreani; Aplix Corporation; Paul Grojean; Pavel Lahoda; Rahul Tyagi.

Java SE/EE EC:

Ratified Seat Candidates: Hologic, Inc; Apache Software Foundation; Red Hat Middleware LLC.
Open Seat Candidates: Azul Systems; Eclipse Foundation; Google; Fabio Haider; Bob Lee; Liferay, Inc; Sam Pullara

This is an impressive list of candidates; the JCP election page has pictures, links, mini-bios, and, in some cases, a position statement. Also see JCP 2.7 Process Document, specifically the rules for choosing the Executive Committee and information on previous elections.

The list of candidates isn't entirely what it seems:

Hello all,

Besides what you have seen in Aplix's profile I would like to point out a few things:

Aplix is the spec lead as well as the RI and TCK implementer/provider for MIDP, MMAPI, and JSR 82.

Aplix was voted the 2010 JCP member of the year for leadership.

Aplix has invested heavily in Java and continues to invest in the future of Java.

Aplix is currently on the JCP ME EC.

We want to continue to serve the community, please support us.

Thank you,
John Rizzo
