Wrapping a Car Around a Tree

A common American slang phrase for having an auto accident with an immobile object is to "wrap your car around it." One most commonly hears about wrapping one's car around a tree. Well, leave it up to the Germans to provide a practical demonstration. The following photos are from an accident on the Autobahn in Germany.

Comments:

Couple of things:

  1. That's a rural road, so it can't be an Autobahn. Autobahn is "motorway" in english.
  2. The car doesn't have german licence plates, so possibly not even in Germany
  3. Hard to tell but the police car doesn't look German (theirs are green and white usually)
  4. That is almost certainly a fatal accident. :(

Ya know, you're right about point #1. That definitely isn't an Autobahn. I had just repeated the original comments...

I have no idea how you can tell the plates aren't German. All I can see is a white, Euro-sized plate. I can't make out anything on it.

The police car? I can't even see a police car in the photos. I certainly don't see any police, and I really doubt that if the police were there that the crowd would be allowed to stand so close to the car. I suspect the photo was taken after the police and paramedics had left.

I do freely admit, though, that I don't have any information about the accident other than what accompanied the pictures when I received them, which may well be wrong. The road and people look German to me, but that's far from conclusive.

Dan,

Check the "police car" link in my comment. ;) Just strip off the filename to get a listing of the directory and more photos (or google for "red ford escort around tree" - which is how I found it). As for the people, generic clothing really - they just as easily could be Irish. Could be anywhere in Europe really ;).
