Laissez les Bons Temps Rouler

Welcome back, Sun! It's amazing what consistently turning a quarterly profit can do for a company. I have previously been known to complain that Sun was actually making negative (less than zero) employee retention efforts. Now that things are looking up again, though, the perks are slowly reappearing. Bonuses are the biggest thing to have reappeared. Perhaps more notably, though, the Friday beer bashes are back! Because of the Menlo Park/Santa Clara duality, in practice they're actually bi-weekly beer bashes, but once every other week is much better than once every other decade. The return of the beer bashes is notable because it's an expense that serves no purpose other than employee morale. What a concept! Sun would actually rather not have all the employees quit. Go figure. Perhaps more importantly, the Friday beer bashes were a big part of Sun culture before the Dot Bomb, so bringing them back is a very direct overture to returning to the good ol' days. I don't expect to wake up tomorrow in 1998, but after a very long dry spell there is finally hope on the horizon.
