My Name: Liang Chen
My Job: Distinguished Engineer & Architect, Sun Developer Tools
Website Description: Liang Chen's Blog
I am working on the overall architecture and strategic direction of Sun Studio developer tools. My main interest is to investigate the entire parallel/distributed computing spectrum which covers from the tightly coupled Multithreaded, OpenMP and Transactional Memory to loosely coupled SOA and Cloud computing. My recent work is to explore a new parallel programming framework targeting easier programmability and good parallel scalability by exposing the customizable parallel schedulers at application level. I was also invited to attend UC Berkeley Parlabs and Stanford University PPL retreat conferences to learn the latest academic development.
Prior to my current job, I was the software architect and manager of Phaser project at SunLabs. Phaser is a research project to build a massive parallel machine with thousands of processors to simulate Sun future computing systems. Before joining Sun in July 1996, I worked on functional verification and timing analysis tools for EDA at the various companies. My EDA experience includes building the software team and running the software organization at IKOS Systems from 1986 to 1992 and helping bring IKOS to IPO in 1990. I also worked for SGI from 1993 – 1995 and had my own EDA consulting firm serving AMD and SGI from 1995 – 1996.
