Oracle Events Recognized for Their Sustainability Efforts

MeetGreen is a company that works with progressive global organizations to integrate leading event sustainability practices and produce conferences and events that deliver targeted business results. The MeetGreen Calculator is a comprehensive tool for benchmarking the sustainable elements of events and its results correspond to a tiered ranking. I am pleased to share that Oracle OpenWorld San Francisco 2018 has achieved the highest calculator ranking for events called "Visionary". Within MeetGreen’s ranking system, a “Visionary” leads within their own industry, prioritizes measurement, and works to move the sustainability dial. A “Visionary” also researches and develops new initiatives to improve environmental performance and uses the organization’s buying power to drive change with venues and vendors.

Oracle continues to expand its sustainability efforts for events around the world. Between January through March, Oracle held an Oracle OpenWorld conference in London, Dubai, and Singapore as well as MBX/MCX in Las Vegas. For every event, Oracle focuses sustainability efforts in four areas:

  • Produce zero waste to landfill
  • Model carbon reduction and responsibility for corporate events
  • Catalyze legacies to benefit host destinations and the event industry
  • Inspire attendees through engaging sustainability experiences

Each objective has a set of goals and best practices to help measure and report on outcomes. Here are just a few highlights from Oracle’s global events:

  • Dubai held its first ever recycling program.
  • London saved 10,269 feet of single-use plastic by eliminating straws. That’s enough to stretch across 35 football fields!
  • MBX/MCX donated 726 kilograms (1,600 pounds) of materials to local Las Vegas organizations.
  • Singapore sourced 94 percent of its menu items within 400 kilometers (250 miles) and sourced its lunches free of single-use plastic packaging.

We applaud these efforts, and while we know there is more to be done, Oracle celebrates these  impacts across the globe and looks forward to continuing to elevate its event sustainability efforts throughout ongoing and future conference cycles.
