Using My Oracle Support? Then checkout the “Using My Oracle Support” Community

The site formerly known as Metalink has undergone some major changes and if you wish you had someone to talk to about how to get the most of the new interface and all the new features that are available, wish no more:

The “Using My Oracle Support” Community is available and now you can talk to other users and to the people who are building the tools that shape your Oracle support and configuration management experience.

Just click on the “Communities” tab and click on the “Using My Oracle Support” community on the left hand side (under My Oracle Support).

Feel free to checkout other communities as well such as Diagnostics and Community Feedback.

Speaking of which, what else would you like to see out of these Communities?

    What do you have to do to get the Flash-based "My Oracle Support" to work with Firefox on Linux? I'm running 64-bit Ubuntu with the latest flash, and don't have trouble on any other sites I go to.

    Hi Dennis,
    To your issue on Ubuntu 64bit, some additional information would be helpful:
    - are you using the 32-bit player or the 64 bit player?
    - any other relevant troubleshooting data
    I've included some helpful information below, but without more information about your system I'd encourage you to get help from support, either by:
    - using the feedback link in Metalink (upper right)
    - if you haven't already, posting in the Using My oracle Support Community (accessible from Classic Metalink)

    Adobe has an alpha version for the 64bit player that is available in their labs area. It is not a general release yet and may be months before it is ready. Please inquire with Adobe on their product availability.

    a totally flash metalink is a bad idea.
    >I've *never* liked flash. flashblock is my friend.
    >. . . 'flash only' site. On my high speed connection - it is slow. On my lower speed connection - it is death.
    >And all of those floaty menus (heaven forbid you start down that stupid menu trail and the mouse accidentally pops OFF the menu closing the trail - making you start over, and over and over and over).
    >Does it look pretty? (not really, I don't think so, it all looks "busy"). Some may say yes. But the loss of functionality to me is huge.
    >And - it is a HUGE roadblock for the disabled. Try accessing it with a screen reader or no mouse some time..

    In the new Metalink format, how do you freeze/delete a Metalink user?
    In Classic, the process was straighforward.

    Hi RC,
    Thanks for the feedback on the Flex-based interface -- the My Oracle Support Team has improved usability high on the priority list!
    Besides the menu trail, are there any other specific usability issues you would like to share (either positive or negative)?

    I just got an email that Oracle is discontinuing classic MetaLink. Tell me they're not serious. The new flash thing is hopelessly broken. Among missing basic functionality are the following:
    0. SLOW - wow the Flash interface takes waiting to a new level. Updates are awkward and very time consuming.
    1. Ability to open KB articles in new tabs
    (in either Firefox or Explorer)
    2. Ability to have multiple windows, sessions or tabs for tracking multiple related KB articles.
    3. Ability to manage authorized users of your CSI. I had a pending user - Flash told me there was a pending user, but I couldn't see it. Had to resort to classic. Found other broken links in this area under Flash as well.
    3. Bookmarks - supposedly migrated, but most are broken and many are missing.
    4. Basic navigation, the hierarchical nature of the interface is useless to power users tracking multiple simultaneous problems.
    5. Support for non-DOS/Linux platforms. Due to security and firewalls, it is often necessary to download patches directly to a platform that doesn't support flash. And you won't let us download patches without going through MetaLink...
    6. Did I mention SLOW? I can navigate multiple screens and find answers in classic while Flash is still out to lunch on my first request.
    7. Need for multiple sessions / logins: If they can't support tabs, could they at least not hose my other session when I try to create a new one?
    8. Ability to duplicate current tab to a new tab or window.
    9. Support for browser navigation - particularly the back button and duplicate described previously.

    I've been getting the same e-mails as Michael Stone about the retirement of Classic Metalink, and I feel the same way. My Oracle Support is SLOW, all flash (literally and figuratively) with little improvement in substance, and missing capabilities I used to have. I switched back to Classic Metalink, and am DREADING the day that you make me use the new piece of garbage.

    I have some of the same feeling as others in this blog.
    My Oracle Support is much slower, the interface for filing SR is more cumbersome and I can't really see the entire SR in one single read.
    Can we not get the "Classic Metalink" continue alongwith the My Oracle Support version and perhaps overtime you can realize which one is preferred over the other (simply by counting the hits etc)?

    Who moved my cheese? And why did they move it inside a deep, dark, inaccessible cave?
    Michael Stone has brilliantly verbalized my concerns (especially - slow and multiple tabs), no need to duplicate them.
    The design of MyOracle Support has a specific community in mind and probably does/will service that community very well. I will happily use the flash system when I am trying to impress management and if I am in pro-active mode, it seems to be almost acceptable.
    When I am under duress to get something accomplished I need the faster, simpler, html-based, tab-aware, accessible-anywhere Classic version.
    In the test, dev and education environments I manage, 99% of my activity is reactive by nature and by design. The concept of having a (legal) environment whose lifetime is measured in hours and days tie via agent back to MyOracle Support does not seem efficient.

    When adding articles as favorites in My Oracle Support, it only shows the article id in the list and not the subject, like it used to show in Classic Metalink. This is highly inconvenient as just showing article ids in the favourite list will not help us much.

    Hi Everyone,
    We've been hearing a lot of feedback lately in light of the communications regarding the Classic Metalink Retirement; I think it's some of the most useful intel we can get from customers, so we urge you to keep telling us what's on your mind, good or bad.
    There will be improvements with the new release that coincide with the retiring of Classic Metalink, including performance, which seems to be one of the most common concerns (of course, that's just the beginning). Feel free to checkout my most recent blog post that has some helpful links.
    The goal is to take these steps forward and listening to you all helps us turn the small steps into leaps, so thanks, and as I've said before, we're all ears...

    We use the classic Metalink for the search Doc ID.
    The new Metalink find no Doc ID. The Return is: No Results Found.
    The classic Metlink finds the Doc ID. The Oracle Consults tell us the Instructions to implement as Metalink Doc ID...
