"Bookmarks" in classic ML vs. "Favorites" in My Oracle Support

One of the frequent topics that we've heard raised is what's happened with MetaLink bookmarks. Were they transferred over? How have they changed? What's the deal?

First of all, when we made the transition a week and a half ago, we migrated all existing bookmarks to become favorites in My Oracle Support. However, you should know that that was a one-time operation, so any new bookmarks that you may have created in the Classic UI after Sunday, September 21st won't show up as My Oracle Support favorites.

Otherwise, why might the number of bookmarks from your Classic interface not match the number of favorites in the new UI? For one thing, any bookmarks that were pointing to deleted articles won't have been migrated; for another, the new interface allows many different types of favorites (Systems, Projects, Targets, SR, Articles, etc.) versus the flat list available in Classic.

Also, we just finished implementing a fix for an issue that prevented some migrated bookmarks from showing correctly as favorites. So if you weren't seeing quite what you were expecting in your "Manage Favorites" window, you may want to check again now.

Ideally, that should clarify some of the outstanding questions on what happened to your MetaLink bookmarks -- if there are still any issues that you run into, please let us know!

Hi Joshua, how does the bug favorites work ? I can select them from the "Favorites" list, but I was expecting to see them under the "Bug Summary" panel. They don't appear there. How can we use "My Oracle Support" to monitor bug updates as in the old Metalink ? Thanks in advance, Didier.

Favorites right now do not support the same concept as monitoring bugs in Classic MetaLink. One option is to use the Hot Topics feature under Settings to watch a set of bugs for a particular product and platform. Another option is If the bug is associated to one of your Service Requests, it should also show in the Bug Summary region. In the mean time, we have an open enhancement to modify the Bug Summary region to provide the Monitoring capability you have in Classic MetaLink.

Hi, i switched the company i am working for on 1.Okt.08 For this i did a transformation from my Bookmarks from the metalink account of my old company to the metalink account of my new company via cut and past using two browser windows from the "old" metalink. Due to this reason, all 300 bookmarks i have on my new account have the timestamp of 1.Okt.08 and later. What can be now the solution for transferring my bookmarks from old to new metalink ? I really dont want lo loose all my gathered information, and as the "old" metalink will be closed once this will be fact !!! Thanks for your help!

Peter, Unfortunately, there's not much you can do other than to search for them in the new interface and mark them as favorites. Because you created them for your new account in the classic MetaLink interface after the bookmark migration, they won't be migrated automatically. -Joshua

Bookmarks are a fabulous support feature. Oracle should provide a utility for individuals to migrate their bookmarks to the new system. Why? Because those of us who could not and did not switch over to the new "My Oracle Support" last year now are inconvenienced by having to perform hundreds of knowledge searches *AGAIN* to find and bookmark the relevant document they need and refer to. My 2 cents... FWIW - The new interface really taxes my PC - the fan is on alway now unless I close it.

How can you force people to new stuff with important old functionality going missing? This is just wrong IMVHO. I am responding to Sean's response about ability to monitor bugs functionality from old Metalink. In general I am unable to find solid and convincing reasons for this decommission of Metalink with the more heavyweight and less user firendly My Oracle Support. I admit I am not a heavy user of Metalink - but that only underscores the point I am making I think.
