Survey follow up and T-shirt winners
By Magdalena Prokopova on Jan 26, 2009
In December we launched a survey to find out bit more about our users and identify what locales are important for them. During a month period we collected 213 answers with participants were from all over the world.
To reward some of those who took their time and answered our questions we announced that 20 free T-shirts will be given out. The draw took place in the SUN office in Prague and lucky winners have been contacted and will receive their T-shirts soon.
We took a few pictures during the draw:
And the winners are...
Marcel, Ian, Bernd, Ángel, Grzegorz, Sebastian, Ewald, Ignazio, Leandro, Aleksandar, Douglas, Krister, Abraham, Rajkumar, Masami, Jens, Martin, Paul, Mike, Sean
The survey results are presented at our webpages at OpenSolaris.org
The results of the survey were really interesting; 36 new locales for OpenSolaris were proposed and we focus to get these into the system. Well actually, we already started to work with SUN India Engineering Center to extend the locale support for Indian languages. And guess what, the Indian languages were among those that were requested the most. We track the status of proposed locales at the survey results page.
More over we asked users what encoding they use. That is another interesting topic; so far OpenSolaris focuses on UTF-8 encoding, but without user feedback we had no chance to know to what extent other encodings are used. In the survey 16 participants specified other encoding than UTF-8 (that makes 8% of the answers) with highest number of people specifying ISO8859-1.
And we are analyzing the results even more and more to come up with more detailed globalization strategy...
