OpenSolaris presentation at CVuT Campus
By Robert Malovec on Apr 08, 2008
On 3/12/08 there was an OpenSolaris seminar inside of CVuT Campus organized by our college, CVuT Campus ambasador, Miroslav Kopecky. He spoke about advantages of OpenSolaris, mentioned its interesting features such as ZFS, virtualization and Solaris Zones. There were more than 30 students present on this seminar. Our team was also invited to tell a couple of words about globalization site of OpenSolaris.
We had 3 presenters: Petr Hruska, Javier Acosta, Robert Malovec. At the beginning Petr Hruska shared with students information about what we are doing in Globalization, how's QA (quality assurance) done and why's globalization and localization of (Open)Solaris so important. In the second part of our time block reserved to us presented Javier Acosta information about keyboards, how look keyboard maps under xsun and xorg and how simple is to modify these keyboard maps by hand. Attenders get also some info about new feature comming into OpenSolaris for quick change of keyboard layout according to choosed language - setxkbmap. Last part, presented by me, was dedicated to translation process of OpenSolaris. I was speaking about what are our approaches, how translation of messages is done now, told little bit of what are we planning and also get some information how to become a contributor in translation process of OpenSolaris into various languages.
At the end of seminar we made a small quiz for attenders, the correct answers were honoured with out team T-shirts.
Students seemed to be interested in what we were talking about, no one was leaving seminar during our presentation which is a good point :-) We had a nice time there, thank you to every attender for coming and hope we meet again at any other OpenSolaris seminar.
