While EA Link is advertised as an Online Service, it seems more like an ecommerce site in many ways, and perhaps isn't the best example of a connected service. However, clearly true online services are becoming critical to the success of many games.
Just by going to EA's web site you can tell the online experience is pretty important to them. They even have a counter right on the front page that tells you how many people are currently online playing their games.
To this point the website Eurogamer has an article that talks about how critical online connected services will be in the coming next-gen game console wars. Seems like with all the money these companies have spent on high end processors and graphics chips that this war might be won or lost on quality of each company's connected services.
