Which Oracle Access Manager Patchsets Can Be Used with EBS?

Steven Chan

Oracle versions numbers can be very long.  Complicating matters further, different product families within Oracle use the version hierarchy differently.  This can make it confusing to determine whether a specific product update has been certified with Oracle E-Business Suite.

Specifically, a customer recently asked whether it was acceptable to apply the Oracle Access Manager 11.1.2.2.8 update to their OAM instance that was integrated with EBS 12.1.3.  They were concerned because our OAM integration documentation for that combination explicitly specified compatibility with OAM 11.1.2.2.0.

The OAM team uses the fifth digit for Bundle Patches, Patch Set Updates (PSU) and Security Patch Updates (SPU).  In this particular case, the fifth-level digit in the Oracle Access Manager version is not relevant.  In other words, the customer could apply OAM 11.1.2.2.8 because it was covered by the OAM 11.1.2.2.0 certification.

For example, all of the following OAM updates will work with EBS 12.1.3:

  • OAM 11.1.2.2.0 (documented certification)
  • OAM 11.1.2.2.1
  • OAM 11.1.2.2.2
  • OAM 11.1.2.2.3
  • OAM 11.1.2.2.4
  • OAM 11.1.2.2.5
  • OAM 11.1.2.2.6
  • OAM 11.1.2.2.7
  • OAM 11.1.2.2.161018

This is sometimes shown in our documentation in either of the following ways:

  • OAM 11.1.2.2
  • OAM 11.1.2.2.x

The absence of a fifth-digit or the presence of an 'X' in the fifth digit's place means any fifth-digit level updates may be applied to an OAM environment integrated with EBS 12.1.3 without requiring a new certification.  This applies to all environments, including test and production.

    Hello Steven

My name is Deepa and I work for Johns Hopkins -Applied Physics Lab. (Some of my predecessors have worked with you in the past)

My question is related to the recent announcement of Availability of Identity Cloud Service (IDCS)

Can an on premise E business suite installation /user be authenticated using IDCS? In our case we would be interested in eliminating /circumventing the use of on Premise OID /OAM infrastructure. If so where can I find more information on this ? As a side note : in our case Active Directory is the source of truth.

    Thanks for your help!

    Regards

    Hello, Deepa,

Good to hear from you. Thanks for the update on your plans.

We're looking into enhancing our existing OAM/OID hooks to work with IDCS. This effort is in its early stages, so I don't have any details that I can share at this point.

You're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. I'll post updates as soon as soon as they're available.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hello Steven
My name is Deepa and I work for Johns Hopkins -Applied Physics Lab. (Some of my predecessors have worked with you in the past)

Oracle recently announced that they obtained FEDRAMP certification for their cloud services. I am assuming this includes the Identity Cloud Service (IDCS).

Last year oracle's team was looking into enhancing your existing OAM/OID hooks to work with IDCS. This effort was in its early stages.
Reaching out to you to see how that is going. If you are able to share an approximate ETA on when EBS would be certified to use IDCS that would be great.
    Thanks and Regards

    Hello, Deepa,

We don't have any updates on our IDCS integration yet. The IDCS team has put together an interim solution for EBS that may involve third-party software, but we (EBS Development) haven't had a chance to review that yet. Our own solution for this integration is still being discussed; there are no formal projects for this underway yet.

    Regards,
    Steven
