Sun JRE 1.6.0_24 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite

Steven Chan
Senior Director
The mismanaged session cookie issue (now fixed) may have made you a little nervous about automatically applying new JRE updates.  To reassure you on that front:
  • Sun Java Runtime Environment 1.6.0_24 (a.k.a. JRE 6u24, 1.6.0_24-b07) is certified with E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12.
  • JRE 1.6.0_24 contains the fixes for the mismanaged session cookie issue that were originally released as part of JRE 1.6.0_23.
All JRE releases are certified with EBS upon release Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and higher.  We test all new JRE releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all JRE releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team.  In other words, you do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE releases to your EBS users' desktops.  If you wish, your desktop administrators can enable the Java "Automatic updates" option on your end-users' desktops. What's new in Java 1.6.0_24? See the 1.6.0_24 Update Release Notes for details about what has changed in this release.  This release is available for download from the usual Sun channels and through the 'Java Automatic Update' mechanism. This JRE release has been certified with both Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12.  We recommend this release for all E-Business Suite users. References Related Articles

    Hi Stephen,

Are you able top advise whether the security flaw as notified last Thursday 10th Feb (CVE-2010-4476) is fixed in this JRE update?

    Hi Steven,

We are so happy to see that the Oracle java team coordinated with the EBS team to release its product and ensure the group’s product doesn’t break another group’s apps. Last year, when this process was not yet in place, our users, administrators, testers, managers all suffered a great deal…

It is very encouraging to see Oracle improving the process along with fixing the technical issues. Many thanks from your grateful users…

    Best Regards,

To answer my own question, if only I'd waited a couple of hours I'd have not needed to ask.

Seems that yes 6u24 does indeed address last weeks alert ((CVE-2010-4476)).

Thank you for getting this certified on the same cycle as the security update. Having complained about this and the hotfix releases, this is very encouraging to see and I very much hope you can keep it up!

I have a Dell 8500 running win 7 -64 bit and I have a program which is asking for Java ® version 1.6.0_24

Questions: Is this the best/correct version of Java to run under Win7-64? Will my software have trouble if I install the latest version, (1.6-38???) or should I only download release 24?

Any assistance would be appriciated, thanks,

Are you connecting to an Oracle E-Business Suite release? This blog is for EBS issues.

In general, we recommend running the latest JRE release certified with whatever Java software you're accessing.

Where is the Java 1.6.0_24 download file?

  • Steven Chan Wednesday, July 17, 2013

    Hello, Wesley,

Public updates have ended for Java 6. You can obtain Java 6 updates if you run Oracle software that depends on Java 6. See this externally-published article:

Implications of Java 6 End of Public Updates for EBS Users (Oracle E-Business Suite Technology)
