Second Recommended Patch Collection for EBS 12.1.3 Now Available

Robert Farrington
Applications Technology Integration
We are pleased to announce the availability of the second consolidated patch collection for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3.  This patchset combines a number of important patches for Release 12.1.3 into a single integrated and regression-tested patchset:

Reasons to Apply RPC2

Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.1.3 has been available for a while, and over its lifetime has been significantly enhanced in numerous ways. These enhancements and fixes are provided as individual patches, product family Release Update Packs (RUP), and product-specific Recommended Patch Collections (RPC).

For example, there are Recommended Patch Collections for Financials products such as General Ledger and Payables. On the technology side, there are patchsets such as the OA Framework 12.1.3.1 Consolidated Update Patch.

Identifying and applying all the individual patches, RUPs, and RPCs you need can be time-consuming. Complicating matters further, patchsets across multiple product families are generally not tested together.

Included in RPC2

The EBS 12.1.3+ RPC2 patchset includes a comprehensively tested set of the latest recommended patches and their dependencies for the following Oracle E-Business Suite products and product families:

  • Applications Technology (ATG)
  • Oracle Customer Relationship Management (CRM)
  • Oracle Financials (FIN)
  • Oracle Human Resource Management System (HRMS)
  • Oracle Procurement (PRC)
  • Oracle Projects (PJ)
  • Oracle Supply Chain Management (SCM)
  • Oracle Value Chain Planning (VCP)

Feedback Welcome

We are looking at applying RPC2

RPC2 seems to include the Aug/2014 RPCs for all modules

Section 3. Functional Information lists all the patches and descriptions

Do we have to look at every individual documents per modules listed ?

    ex: GL 18028409/Doc 1619767.1 and associated readme , AP 17176017/Doc 1397581.1 and associated readme , etc ..

Or the pre/post install steps listed in Doc 1920628.1 is basically all that's needed ?

    Thanks

    Hello,

You just need to follow the instructions in Doc 1920628.1.

    Regards,

    Robert.

Its great to see this second RPC patch which we hope will significantly reduce the effort in keeping ebs suite upto date and result in less issues from applying patches

Are there any plans to issue a schedule when these RPC patch bundles will be released to make it easier to plan ?

    Thanks

  • Robert Farrington Friday, October 3, 2014

    Hi Michael,

Glad you find RPC2 useful. The intention is indeed to make patching less tedious and prone to error.

There are no current plans to issue a schedule for any future RPCs, because the number of patches issued over a given period can be very variable. We will, however, keep the situation under review.

    Regards,

    Robert Farrington

We found a lot of bugs in RPC1, which led to more patches required.

  • guest Wednesday, October 29, 2014

The RPC2 note 1920628.1 indicates the following post upgrade steps for AP .. Refer to Note 1341317.1

In this note 1341317.1 they mention the following:

The issue is fixed in version:

    apmassab.pls 120.22.12010000.28 (R12.1.x)

Part II ) Patch containing the code changes

Download and review the readme and pre-requisites for Patch.

    R12.1.x : 11868928:R12.AP.B

    .

I checked and after applying RPC2 we do not have patch 11868928 applied but the apmassab.pls is now 120.22.12010000.49 which is higher than .28

    .

So do we need still need to apply this patch 11868928:R12.AP.B after RPC2 ?

    .

    Thanks

    Hi Guest,

If you have applied RPC2, you do not need to apply patch 11868928:R12.AP.B.

    Regards,

    Robert.

We have Oracle R12.1.3, if we were to apply RPC2,

What are the recommended testing we would have to perform?

Can you please route me to any type of documentation?

    Thanks

  • Robert Farrington Wednesday, November 5, 2014

    Hi Guest,

There are no special instructions or documentation for testing RPC2. You should just follow your normal testing procedures.

We definitely recommend applying RPC2 rather than the individual patches separately.

    Regards,

    Robert.

If we apply RPC2, do we need to apply recommended patch for each module as part of note "EBS: R12.1 Oracle Financials Recommended Patch Collection (RPC), Aug 2014 (Doc ID 954704.1)"?

  • Steven Chan Tuesday, December 9, 2014

    Hi, Ratnesh,

As with all patches, each suite-wide Recommended Patch Collection has a cutoff date while it's undergoing testing. Each RPC does not include any new patches released after that cutoff date.

You should check the suite-wide RPC2 list of patches (see links above) to ensure whether a new Financials RPC is included. If not, you should apply the RPC2 as well as the new Financials RPC.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hi Stephen,

Can you advise details of any enhanced functionality (ER's) released as part of the RPC2 August 2014 patch ie specifically for the financials suite? Readme details document the specific bug fixes, but it is difficult to identify if any NEW functionality was delivered in the patch.

    Regards

    Anthony

    Hi,

    What would be the better aprroach;

    applying 12.1.3+ RPC2 or going to 12.2.4?

    Thanks

  • Steven Chan Monday, March 16, 2015

    Hi, JA_Guest,

It depends on whether EBS 12.2 better-suits your business needs than EBS 12.1. See:

Should You Upgrade to E-Business Suite 12.1.3 or 12.2?

    Hi Steven,

I'm in the process of applying the RPC2 to my 12.1.3 environment and heard that RPC3 is ready and comes out anytime soon. Do you have any date When this RPC3 is scheduled to release?

    Thanks,

    -Mukarram.

  • Steven Chan Tuesday, April 7, 2015

    Hi, Mukarram,

Oracle's Revenue Recognition rules prohibit us from discussing certification and release dates, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. I'll post updates here as soon as soon as they're available.

    Regards,

    Steven
