We are finding the 12.2.4 patches to upgrade from 12.1.3. However, only the 12.2.x patches appear to be available for the Linux x86 platform. The download for 12.2 which is required prior to these other patches is only available in Linux x86-64 bit versions.

We are currently on 12.1.3 on a Linux x86 platform. Will we not be able to move forward to 12.2 due to this configuration?

    Thank you in advance.

any target dates for 12.1.0.1 Database support specifically for this EBUSINESS 12.2 upgrade (based on doc 1594274.1)? At the moment, we are at the cross roads, and upgrading to database 12.1.0.1 for our EBUSINESS 12.1.3 is more attainable schedule wise. Am cautious though about the possible implications on the eventual upgrade to EBUSINESS 12.2, currently the document (1594274.1) only talks about support for 11.2.0.3 and 11.2.0.4.

    Please share.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hello, Dennisuy,

The certification of Database 12.1.0.1 with EBS 12.2 is in its final stages; we'll be announcing this soon.

You can safely upgrade your EBS 12.1.3 environment to the Database 12.1.0.1 level, knowing that there will be an upgrade path to EBS 12.2.

    Regards,

    Steven

Regarding 12.2.4 VM Virtual Appliance availability, unfortunately I am unable to provide specifics on future release dates, but I can tell you that it is coming but not "imminent". I'd encourage you to monitor the blog for updates.

Is there a Rapid Install option for 12.2.4 ? Or is it patch upgrade only ?

    Murali,

Please see the "Upgrading to 12.2.4" section of the article above.

    hi Judy -

Release 12.2 is only supported on 64-bit platforms such as Linux x86-64. Most modern commodity hardware will support 64-bit Linux, and customers will be required to install or upgrade to 64-bit as part of a 12.2 implementation.

E-Business Suite 12.2 on the application tier consists of a hybrid of 32 and 64-bit components that will run on 64-bit platforms.

The E-Business Suite patches (such as the 12.2.4 RUP) continue to be generated on Linux x86 which can be applied to a Linux x86-64 system.

    Regards,

    John

12.2.4 is certified on Exadata/Exalogic? If yes then 12.2.4 is online patch needs apply with adop? We are currently on 11.2.0.4 database on Exadata with EBS 12.2.3 on Exalogic.

  • Steven Chan Thursday, August 14, 2014

    Hello, Parth,

Oracle applications do not need to be "certified" with Exadata or Exalogic. These hardware platforms are transparent to the applications running on them. Applications do not need extra code or modifications to run on these platforms.

Therefore, you can run any version of the E-Business Suite on them, including EBS 12.2.4.

As stated in the article above:

"Is there a direct upgrade path from EBS 12.2 to 12.2.4?

Yes. EBS 12.2 customers can apply 12.2.4 directly to their environments. EBS 12.2.4 is an Online Patch -- it may be applied while EBS 12.2 is running."

    Hello, Saurabh,

We don't have much visibility into the OBIA certification matrix in my organization. I believe that the latest OBIA release is EBS 12.2.4-compatible, but you can log a Service Request against OBIA to confirm the details.

    Hi Steven,

I have installed the R12.2, now I wants to upgrade it to R12.2.4 and downloaded the zip files i.e. V46241-01_1 to V46241-01_1of9.zip.

But I having doubts how I can use this zip in stage? Or Do I need to apply every individual patch mentioned in Doc.id 1617458.1?

Can we use rapid install window to upgrade R12.2.0 to R12.2.4.

    Thanks & Regards

    Rahul

  • Steven Chan Monday, October 6, 2014

    Hi, Rahul,

I'm sorry to hear that you've encountered an issue with this.

We can provide general conceptual guidance here, but I'm afraid that this blog isn't the best place to get technical support for specific issues like the one that you're working through.

Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged.

Please feel free to forward your Service Request number to me if it gets stuck in the support process for some reason.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hello,

We are planning to move 12.2.4 from 12.1.3, but we do not want to use online patching.

Is it o to use 12.2.4 without installing Online Patching. Which will save our time in upgrading.

    Regards,

    Puneet

  • guest Tuesday, October 14, 2014

We are in 12.1.3. Can we directly upgrade to 12.2.4 from 12.1.3 OR First we have to upgrade to 12.2.0, then we need to upgrade from 12.2.0 to 12.2.4. ?

    Please advise. Thanks.

  • Santiago Bastidas Thursday, October 16, 2014

    Puneet and guest,

Online Patching is not an optional feature, it is the mechanism for applying patches in 12.2. Having said that, the 12.2.4 Upgrade process has been optimized to reduce the upgrade downtime. This optimization is documented in the 12.2.4 Readme, MOS Note:1617458.1. Path A in the Readme describes your case (12.1.3 to 12.2.4 Upgrade Process). For this particular upgrade path we introduced a new mode in adop called downtime. The purpose of this mode is to allow the application of the Upgrade Driver directly to the Run file system and the Run edition in the database, and should only be used for the purpose of the upgrade. This flow will skip the Online Patching cycle in the case of the upgrade.

To upgrade from 12.1.3 to 12.2.4 you have to upgrade to 12.2.0 first, enable Online Patching and then upgrade to 12.2.4.

    Regards,

    Santiago

  • Terri Noyes Thursday, October 16, 2014

    Puneet-

To save time during your initial upgrade, you can use the Online Patching downtime mode option. This feature, introduced in AD and TXK delta 5, is for exclusive use during the upgrade itself. Please review the Maintenance Guide for information on this option. Once your upgrade is complete, you will use an online patching cycle for all maintenance operations unless otherwise indicated.

    -Terri

  • Terri Noyes Thursday, October 16, 2014

    Guest-

It is a multi-step upgrade, where you first move to 12.2.0, enable online patching, and then apply the release update pack (in your case 12.2.4). See "Scenario 2 - Upgrading From a Pre-12.2.0 Release to Release 12.2.4" in MOS document 'Scenarios for Getting Started With Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2'(Doc ID 1587195.1) for a flow chart of the high level steps.

    Hi Steven,

We are planning to upgrade to 12.2.4 from 12.1.3 and we are facing a major issue which is going to take huge time for us to fix.

We have got some customization in 12.1.3 which were using materialized views. We were calling some functions in these views to build data.

Looks like in 12.2.4 we are not able to use those Materialized views which are using functions.

Could you please suggest any alternate for this otherwise we will have to rewire all our customization which is going to take huge time and customer is not ready for that long.

    Regards,

    Puneet

    Thanks

  • Jay Tuesday, October 28, 2014

    Hi,

Intention is to install fresh install of R12.2.4.

Is there a way to install R12.2.4 directly without upgrading it from base install R12.2.0 to R12.2.4 ?

    Thanks!

  • Terri Noyes Tuesday, October 28, 2014

    Jay-

If you use the Rapid Installer, you will lay down the base release (12.2.0) first and then apply the 12.2.4 release update pack.

See 'Scenarios for Getting Started With Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2'(Doc ID 1587195.1), 'Scenario 1: New Installation' for a flow chart of the high level steps.

If you run Oracle VM, consider using VM appliances which allow you to create 12.2.x virtual machines directly. Note that 12.2.4 VM Appliances are in the works. You can read about the 12.2.3 appliances here: http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/oracle_vm_virtual_appliances_available

  • Santiago Bastidas Tuesday, October 28, 2014

    Puneet,

You are correct, Materialized Views in Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2.4 cannot depend on plsql functions. During our internal development we found a few MVs with dependency on plsql functions; the way we addressed the issues is by re-defining the MV queries, including the logic implemented in the function as part of the MV query.

Additionally, you have to follow the Materialized Views development guide in Note:1577661.1 "Developing and Deploying Customizations in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2" Section 4.2.6: Materialized Views. I you don't address the validation, the MVs will become invalid after the Online Patch Enablement process that is part of the overall upgrade exercise.

    Regards,

    Santiago

  • Puneet Tuesday, October 28, 2014

    Thanks Santiago and Terri.

As per your comments, We will have to rewrite our customization to change the MV definition and these MVs are not as simple unlike standard MVs.

Also, we are still struggling to reduce the upgrade time to under two days. We have already tried what Terri suggested.

    Regards,

    Puneet

    Hi Steven

Can you send to me the right manual you follow to install EBS 12.2.4

    thx

  • Robert Farrington Tuesday, November 4, 2014

    Hi Khaled,

There is no single manual or book to follow. The actions you take to implement Release 12.2.4 will depend on your starting point.

    For example, you may be:

    - Installing a completely new system

    - Upgrading from a pre-12.2.0 release to Release 12.2.4

    - Upgrading from Release 12.2.2 or 12.2.3 to Release 12.2.4

These three scenarios are all covered in My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1587195.1, "Scenarios for Getting Started With Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2". This document provides flowcharts for you to refer to, plus downloadable attachments for ease of reference.

The document also refers you to the various other Documentation Library books and My Oracle Support knowledge documents that will apply to your scenario. One document you will certainly need to refer to is "Oracle E-Business Suite Release Notes, Release 12.2" (Doc ID 1320300.1).

    Regards,

    Robert.

seems web app , how about form app ? it still need java plugin , right ?

  • Steven Chan Monday, November 10, 2014

    Hello, Guest,

EBS 12.2.4 still has Forms-based content. It also has OAF-based content.

The Forms-based content requires the JRE desktop plugin.

    Hi all;

We are trying to Migrate from 11.5.10.2.CU2 over Linux x86 to 12.2.0 on the same server, is it possible ?

On that scenario, Which method you recommend ?

    Best Regards

    Edwards

  • Terri Noyes Saturday, November 15, 2014

One can typically do an "upgrade in place" on the same OS, but here you have the complication of a change in OS, since 12.2 is only supported on 64-bit Linux. Our recommendation is to use a second server and employ documented procedures. See: 'Oracle E-Business Suite Upgrades and Platform Migration' document (1377213.1).

  • Edwards Wednesday, November 19, 2014

    Thank you Terry;

Another question; Could be possible to "move" the 11.5.10.2 to Linux 64 Bits ?

    Regards

    Edwards

  • Terri Noyes Friday, November 21, 2014

11i is supported on 32-bit Linux only. I'd advise you again to go with the documented procedure for the platform migration and upgrade.

  • DavidA Monday, November 24, 2014

    Hi

We are an E-Business Suite 12.1.3 customer looking to upgrade to 12.2.4

We have ADF applications running on 11.1.1.7 which integrate with E-Business Suite via the E-Business Suite SDK and have some general questions in this area.

Firstly, will we need to re-configure the security model within our ADF applications after the upgrade to 12.2.4? Since EBS will be on WebLogic do we even need the E-Business Suite SDK going forwards or will the native JAAS-based security work with the OPSS configuration configured for E-Business Suite?

We are hoping to run our ADF applications on the same WebLogic infrastructure as our 12.2 environments. How will this work if our ADF applications are on Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.7 but 12.2 is on 11.1.1.6? What is the roadmap for Fusion Middleware versions supported on E-Business Suite 12.2?

What is the best documentation to read to familiarise ourselves with the changes in E-Business Suite security architecture when moving to 12.2.4?

    Thanks!

  • Sara Woodhull Friday, December 5, 2014

    Hi David,

I'm glad to hear you are upgrading! Here are some answers to your questions:

    1) Firstly, will we need to re-configure the security model within our ADF applications after the upgrade to 12.2.4?

    >> No, you should not need to reconfigure anything within your ADF application.

    2) Since EBS will be on WebLogic do we even need the E-Business Suite SDK going forwards or will the native JAAS-based security work with the OPSS configuration configured for E-Business Suite?

    >> Yes, you do still need the EBS SDK for Java.

    3) We are hoping to run our ADF applications on the same WebLogic infrastructure as our 12.2 environments. How will this work if our ADF applications are on Fusion Middleware 11.1.1.7 but 12.2 is on 11.1.1.6?

    >> You _must_ have the EBS SDK in a _separate_ Oracle WebLogic Server domain from the Release 12.2 EBS domain. This is essentially a separate installation of Oracle WebLogic Server. Our advice is to continue using your separate installation of Oracle WebLogic Server 11.1.1.7 for your ADF application if you already have it working. You will need to check and possibly change the Oracle E-Business Suite part of the setup, such as profile option settings, after the upgrade.

    >> If you want to use the same version of Oracle WebLogic Server for your ADF application as for Oracle E-Business Suite, you can do so by upgrading the Oracle WebLogic Server for Oracle E-Business Suite. However, you still need to have separate Oracle WebLogic Server domains for EBS and for your ADF/EBS SDK application.

    4) What is the roadmap for Fusion Middleware versions supported on E-Business Suite 12.2?

    >> Revenue recognition restrictions prohibit me from discussing the roadmap, but keep an eye on this blog for future announcements.

    5) What is the best documentation to read to familiarise ourselves with the changes in E-Business Suite security architecture when moving to 12.2.4?

    >> There are a few sources of security information:

    - Document 403537.1 - Secure Configuration Guide for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12

    - Oracle® E-Business Suite Security Guide, Release 12.2 (Part No. E22952-09 or higher)

    - Release Content Document for the products you are interested in.

I hope this helps, and good luck with your upgrade!

    Thanks,

    Sara

    Hi, Scott,

You can find the E-Business Suite Technical Reference Manuals (TRM) here:

    http://etrm.oracle.com/pls/etrm/etrm_search.search

This site covers releases 11.5.7 to 12.2.2. The latter is applicable to 12.2.4.

You might find this article useful, too:

  • guest Thursday, December 18, 2014

    Thanks for the info Steven.

However in the eTRM site when I select 12.2.2 diagrams and reports, it only returns 11i information, so not sure if they are applicable to 12.2.4 as well?

    Regards, Scott

  • Steven Chan Friday, December 19, 2014

    Hi, Scott,

Well, that's a surprise. You're right: it appears that all of the content under the top-level "Diagrams and Reports" link is outdated. That material doesn't apply to EBS 12.2. I'll ask the eTRM owners to look into this.

I just checked the 12.2.2 content under the "Select Database" section. That material is current and applies to 12.2.4.

    Regards,

    Steven

We are trying to install EBS 12.2.4 on 2 node shared APPL_TOP & single node DB. The default DB is 11.2.0.3, we are planning upgrading to 12.1.0.2

After upgrade DB to 12c we have a plan to convert this to 2 node RAC & migrate the db to Exadata machines.

    Hello ,

Is there a new version planned after R12.2.4 , I have heard the there would not be new version of Oracle Business Application after R12.2.4 ? .

and customer would be asked to move to Fusion post R12.2.4 is that true ?

    Regards,

    Rajiv.

  • Steven Chan Thursday, February 19, 2015

    Hello, Rajiv,

We're working on the next version after 12.2.4 right now.

I'm afraid that you have been misinformed.

The E-Business Suite is a independent and separate product line from Fusion Applications, in the same way that PeopleSoft and the E-Business Suite are separate and independent product lines. There will be no forced upgrades from the E-Business Suite to anything else, including Fusion Applications.

We are making significant investments in the E-Business Suite, including releasing dozens of mobile apps, producing a new User Interface, and even releasing new products within the suite (e.g. Contract Lifecycle Management).

Bottom line: you can continue to use the E-Business Suite for as long as you wish.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hi Steven,

is there any roadmap available for futher e-Business Suite Release.

We are currently planning the upgrade from 11.5.9 to 12xx. The current planning is 12.2.4, but when will be the next RUP available.

    Thank you very much

    Tom

  • Steven Chan Wednesday, March 11, 2015

    Hi, Tom,

    Good luck with your upgrade.

There are always new EBS updates in the pipeline, but Oracle's Revenue Recognition rules prohibit us from discussing certification and release dates. You're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. I'll post updates here as soon as soon as they're available.

    Regards,

    Steven

  • BALA Monday, March 16, 2015

We are in the middle of upgrading our existing EBS 12.1.3 instances to 12.2.4. We have a large number of Custom objects. Reviewing the objects and making them compliant with the new coding standards and making them access the underlying database objects through the logical layer (synonyms in APPS schema) will take a lot of effort. Our Management is willing to do the upgrade in two phases. In phase I we will perform the upgrade of the application without modifying the custom objects. In phase two we will work on making the custom objects compliant with the new coding standards and make them access all data through the logical layer. We understand that if the custom objects are not made compliant with the new architecture, during the online patching there will be issues with the data consistency. We are planning to keep the business users off the system and stop any business transactions while we do any patching till we are done with phase II of making the custom objects compliant of the new coding standards. Will it be OK to upgrade the custom objects separately at a later date if we can make sure that no business transactions are performed during the online patching? Do we need to take any other precautions other than stopping the business transactions during online patching if the custom objects are not upgraded?

  • Santiago Bastidas Monday, March 16, 2015

    Bala,

The issue with having direct references to the data model in your custom code is not something that affects you only during patching cycle, it will affect your custom code continuously. I would strongly suggest you address the issues with references to the data model prior to the 12.2 upgrade. Remember that this changes in your code will also be compatible with EBS 12.1.3.

Let me give you an example that shows the consequences of not implementing the data mode access pattern prior to 12.2 upgrade

You have a plsql api, PL1, that accesses the EBS Base table T1. Table T1 has columns C1, C2 and C3. Your plsql api PL1 has direct references to columns C1, C2 and C3. As part of the 12.2.4 upgrade or any other patch application, table T1 is patched, it modifies column C3. The modification to columns in EBS 12.2 is implemented as new columns. After the 12.2.4 patch is applied, our hypothetical table T1 ends up with columns C1,C2,C3 and C3#1. And from this point forward the content of C3#1 will be maintained. C3 will be outdated, not maintained and marked as disabled. Your custom code will continue to access C3, which at this point will contain outdated data. This is a very serious issue for your custom code.

If you decide to implement the changes now, before the 12.2.4 upgrade, your custom code will have a reference to the synonym in APPS which points to the editioning view T1#. T1# gets recreated automatically every time a patch modifies T1. In our example, modifications to column C3, will be implemented as C3#1. The EV T1# will expose the column C3#1 as C3 to the synonym in APPS. All the EBS code will use the synonym T1 in the APPS schema to maintain C3, and your code will always access the right data.

Please refer to the E-Business Suite Developers Guide 12.2 for more details on regarding patching tables in R12.2.

    Regards,

    Santiago

We get info that EBS 12.2.4 has been certified with Oracle Database 12c (12.1.0.2), but 12c Active Data guard was still not certification, is there any reason for this or it's just on the way? Any schedule when will 12c ADG certified?

    Thanks,

    Hi

Can i include the updates for R12.2.4 V46241-01(1-9) in the stage media R12.2 instead of upgrading from R12.2 to R12.2.24.

I will used that latest startCD 49.

    kindly advice

  • Cierra Luke Monday, April 27, 2015

Thanks for sharing this and making EBS 12.2.4 easily available, it was a much needed upgrade.

    Regards

    Cierra

  • terri.noyes@oracle.com Monday, April 27, 2015

    Abuzeid-

No, you cannot modify the stage to install/upgrade directly to 12.2.4. There are several crucial steps in between the installation of (or upgrade to) the 12.2.0 baseline and the application of the 12.2.4 release update pack. See Scenarios for Getting Started With Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2(Doc ID 1587195.1).

Have you considered the 12.2.4 VM Appliance as a simplified alternative to the RI?

  • Elke Phelps (Oracle Development) Tuesday, April 28, 2015

    Ricky,

Thanks for the inquiry. Database certification starts with the base database certification of the new database release or patchset on Linux and Solaris, then we certify additional platforms. The base database certification is followed by the certification of database options such as Data Guard and Active Data Guard.

We do our best to certify as many database options with the initial base certification. Due to other projects and resources constraints, certifying all database options and announcing with the initial certification is not always possible.

We are currently in the process of certifying Oracle E-Business Suite 12.2 with Oracle Database 12.1.0.2 and the Active Data Guard optional feature. Please continue to monitor this blog the latest in certification announcements.

    Regards,

    Elke

    Dear Steven,

It seems EB R12.2.5 will be launched soon, because some MOS notes have already been updated to include 12.2.5.

May I know the ETA of 12.2.5?

    Thanks a lot.

    Hi Guest,

Please refer to My Oracle Support Knowledge Document 1587195.1, "Scenarios for Getting Started With Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2".

The scenario that applies to you is the second one discussed in this document:

    - Upgrading from a pre-12.2.0 release to Release 12.2.4

The document provides flowcharts for you to use as a guide, plus downloadable attachments for ease of reference. It also refers you to the various Documentation Library books and other My Oracle Support knowledge documents you will need, such as "Oracle E-Business Suite Release Notes, Release 12.2" (Doc ID 1320300.1).

    Hi Steven,

I installed EBS 12.2.0 using StartdCD 12..2.0.49 successfully and now I am trying to upgrade to R12.2.4.

there are a lot of patches applied according to the Oracle E-Business Suite Relase 12.2: Consolidated List of patches and technology Bug Dixes(Doc ID: 1594274.1).

First of all, I am trying to apply the 23 database patches, every patch is OK.

But for the 18260550 and 18614015, I have some conflicts with each other patch.

Do you have any idea for the good solution?

Also is there any way in the database regarding what patches are applied or not for example using the APPLSYS.AD_BUGS ?

    Thanks

    John

    Hi Steven,

I have question about 12.2 release support policy.

In the past, Oracle stated for EBS premier support on one current and one dot release back. To be specific, if 12.2.5 released, will 12.2.3 be desupported soon ?

    Thanks,

    Eugene

  • Steven Chan Wednesday, September 16, 2015

    Hi, Eugene,

    See this article:

EBS Error Correction Policy Updated for EBS 12.2
    https://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/entry/ebs_ecp_v5_updates

We support the EBS 12.2 codeline. The minimum patching baseline is 12.2.2. You can request new patches for any issues found; these new patches will require 12.2.2, at minimum.

Regardless of the minimum patching baseline, we always recommend that customers apply the latest Release Update Pack available.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hi Steven,

One of my colleague saw one of your presentation, and it said that EBS 12.2 supports database partitions. We wanted to partition OM module tables, and created SR with Oracle Support, they are telling us that, it is not recommended to partition OM Module Tables.

    Please advise.

    Hi all,

Changing the order type during copying from original order to another new order will change warehouse details too???

I tried and it does not change the warehouse detail after modifying the order type.

    Kindly give your inputs.

  • Steven Chan Wednesday, November 11, 2015

    Hi, Guest,

I'm afraid that we don't have any insight into EBS warehouse management functionality. I'd recommend logging a Service Request against the warehouse management product to get help with this one.

    Regards,

    Steven

  • Steven Chan Wednesday, November 11, 2015

    Hi, Jana,

Thanks for the SR number. Support's guidance is accurate with the information provided so far. If you are experiencing performance problems with Order Management, your first action should be to log a formal Service Request to get assistance from our Performance specialists. It is highly likely that performance problems can be resolved without resorting to the R&D, licensing costs, effort, and overhead of introducing custom partitions.

Custom partitioning is always possible, of course, but should be considered only when all other avenues have been investigated formally.

    Regards,

    Steven

    Hi Team,

Though this question is addressed previously, would like to put in a different yes or no way.

In order to upgrade to 12.2.4 from 12.1.3 we need to first upgrade to 12.2 and then to 12.2.4?

or Is there any option to upgrade to 12.2.4 from 12.1.3 directly?

  • guest Tuesday, November 17, 2015

No. The process entails upgrading to 12.2.0, enabling online patching, and then moving to 12.2.4. You can review the flows in Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2: Technical Planning, Getting Started, and Go-Live Checklist (Doc ID 1585857.1).
