Internet Explorer 10 Certified with Oracle E-Business Suite

MS IE logoMicrosoft Internet Explorer 10 is now certified as a desktop client browser for Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i, 12.0, and 12.1.  The certified desktop operating systems are:

  • Windows 7
  • Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (32-bit or 64-bit)

EBS 12.1 Prerequisites

  • EBS 12.1.1 or higher
  • Java Plug-in JRE 1.6.0_03 (32-bit) or higher, or JRE 1.7.0_10 (32-bit) and higher
  • Java Plug-in JRE 1.6.0_32 (64-bit) or higher, or JRE 1.7.0_10 (64-bit) and higher

EBS 12.0 Prerequisites

  • Oracle Applications Technology R12.ATG_PF.A.DELTA.6 (patch 7237006) or higher.
  • Oracle Forms Version 10.1.2.3 or higher.
  • Java Plug-in JRE 1.6.0_03 (32-bit) or higher, or JRE 1.7.0_10 (32-bit) and higher
  • Java Plug-in JRE 1.6.0_32 (64-bit) or higher, or JRE 1.7.0_10 (64-bit) and higher

EBS 11i Prerequisites

  • Oracle Applications patch 10 (11.5.10) plus Maintenance Pack 11.5.10 CU2 or higher
  • Oracle Applications Technology 11i.ATG_PF.H Rollup 6 (RUP 6) (patch 5903765) or higher.
  • Oracle Developer 6i patchset 19 (6.0.8.28.x) (see Note 125767.1)
  • MLR patch 8888184 or higher (see note 125767.1 for the latest release)
  • Java Plug-in JRE 1.6.0_03 (32-bit) or higher, or JRE 1.7.0_10 (32-bit) and higher
  • Java Plug-in JRE 1.6.0_32 (64-bit) or higher, or JRE 1.7.0_10 (32-bit) and higher

Compatibility Mode for IE 10 + EBS 12

To prevent issues with certain OA Framework pages, you should run IE 10 in "Compatibility Mode." See the "Known Issues" section in Note 389422.1 for more details.

JRE 1.7 is certified with EBS

There appears to be some inaccurate information lying about on the web that claims that JRE 1.7 is not certified with the E-Business Suite. 

This is incorrect.  Our standard policy is that all E-Business Suite customers can apply all JRE updates to end-user desktops from JRE 1.6.0_03 and later updates on the 1.6 codeline, and from JRE 7u10 and later updates on the JRE 7 codeline.  We test all new JRE 1.6 and JRE 7 releases in parallel with the JRE development process, so all new JRE 1.6 and 7 releases are considered certified with the E-Business Suite on the same day that they're released by our Java team. 

You do not need to wait for a certification announcement before applying new JRE 1.6 or JRE 7 releases to your EBS users' desktops.

"JInitiator version too low" errors

Some non-Oracle staff are claiming that "JInitiator version too low" errors confirm this incompatibility and lack of certification.

In fact, if you're getting a "JInitiator version too low" error, it means that you've missed applying the Forms patch required to enable JRE 1.7 compatibility. Simply apply that patch and your EBS environment is ready for JRE 1.7 clients.

    This is good news. In a previous post you said "Yes, we've been testing steadily with various combinations. We've identified a few issues that we're working through right now. A recent Microsoft security-related update set us back a bit -- things that were working fine prior to the update stopped working after it. We had to develop additional code to work around those issues." but this release suggests no new code, is there a reason for that? Do you anticipate an IE11 certification to be quicker?

    Windows 8 is not certified with *any* browsers for EBS 12.1.3 yet. This certification is still underway.

    Oracle's Revenue Recognition rules prohibit us from discussing certification and release dates, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog. I'll post updates here as soon as soon as they're available.

    I was excited to see IE10 compatibility but this is just a work around, a work around that breaks many other sites on the same domain for us, we are using group policy objects to avoid this internally.

    Are you still looking into actual IE10 compatibility or at least using the x-ua-compatible header at some time in the future?

    Hi Steve,

    We have Oracle EBS R12(12.1.3) and sso configured with OID (10g).

    Currently, we are testing Windows7 64bit with IE10 in compatibility view.

    The SSO is not working even though we lowered the Windows security to accept DES-CBC-MD5 or DES-CBC-CRC cipher suites for Kerberos token.

    Is there any workaround until we move to "Oracle Access Manager".

    Hi, Ravi,

    Premier Support for Oracle Single Sign-On 10g ended in Dec. 2011. Extended Support is not available for that product version.

    It can't hurt for you to log a Service Request against Oracle Single Sign-On to see if there's a workaround, but I wouldn't be surprised if there isn't.

    You should migrate to Oracle Access Manager as soon as possible.

    Hi Steven,

    We're an eBS customer running 12.1.3 and we also recently implemented Oracle's WebCenter Imaging for AP (to process invoices). I would like to move our institution to IE 10 but find I cannot because in a nutshell the two Oracle products aren't playing nicely in the sandbox ... eBS requires compatibility mode to be on so that the user's responsibilities will display and work on their home screen; however WCI doesn't work with compatibility mode turned on because ADF doesn't support compatibility mode settings. If I have it turned on when trying to use WCI, the skins do not render properly.

    Our consulting partner logged an SR for this on our behalf (3-8182294681) and now a bug has been logged (17924324) and the SR closed. I'm concerned because it's classified as a minor defect, and it isn't --- we can't move to a newer version of IE until this works with both products. And from a security perspective, it's best to try and stay current on your desktop browsers (obviously)... can you shed any light?

    Hello Steve, we are Oracle OnDemand customer, so they host our EBS. We recently did JRI upgrade on our test instance to see if we can start using Java 7.51 instead of 6.23 we are currently using, based on our account manager, below is what happens with this upgrade, so it really doesnt upgrade our server Java version but it will still allows us to use latest Java

    JRI upgrade on the EBS server, I was explained this will only install a certificate that can help you with the security improvements introduced in Java 7.40, 7.45 up to 7.51, the EBS url will launch independent from the level of security you have set in Java 7.x in your workstation.

    -------------

    So after this is done our test system is working fine with either IE9 or 10 and with Java 7.51 but our Discoverer is not working, its giving error like Security Exception stating com.sun.deploy.net.JARSigningException: Found unsigned entry in resource: and something about disco5i.jarjar

    Any ideas or thoughts?

    Hi Rajesh,

    We hit the same issue and are testing an upgrade to Discoverer 11g.

    Several MOS Docs show that Discoverer 10g will not work with JRE 7:

    Doc ID 465234.1: JRE 7 is not currently certified with Discoverer 10g

    Doc ID 290807.1: Discoverer users running JRE 1.7.10 or higher must upgrade to OracleBI Discoverer (11g) 11.1.1.6 or higher

    Doc ID 1619823.1: Discoverer 10.1.2.3 only supports Java 1.6.x

    We have implemented a short-term solution from:

    Doc ID 1619823.1: Discoverer 10G Does Not Run with Multiple Versions of Java on Client

    Solution: On your Windows Client PC you can turn off the temporary internet files for Java as a workaround to this problem. This workaround should allow you to have multiple versions of Java on your client PC (Java 1.6 and 1.7) and allow Discoverer 10 to run.

    Hello Richie, thanks for replying to my post, so I tried your way to not save temporary files on Java and I could do it only for 1.7 version of it and I tried but still no luck Discoverer doesn't work still, should I do it on both versions if so how? And how to make sure Discoverer picks 1.6 because when I run it browser is requesting to allow use of 1.7 and dont allow it and still get error. Please let me know how it worked for you.

    Hi Rajesh,

    With Java 6 update 23 & Java 7 update 45 installed on a Windows XP client; I followed Doc ID 1619823.1 to turn off the temporary internet files for Java. This has worked for us on desktops where Java 7 is required. We are holding off on upgrading all desktops to Java 7 until we are ready to go to Discoverer 11g.

    The IE 11 certification with the E-Business Suite is underway now. We're planning on certifying IE 11 with EBS 11i, 12.0, 12.1, and 12.2.

    We recommend that customers block IE 11 from widespread deployment by their EBS users until we complete our certification. Microsoft changed their rendering engine yet again with this latest release, so there are some specific compatibility issues that we need to resolve.
