Oracle VM Virtual Appliances Available for E-Business Suite Release 12.2.3

Oracle VM Virtual Appliances for E-Business Suite Release 12.2.3 are now available from the Oracle Software Delivery Cloud at this location:

These virtual appliances can be imported into Oracle VM Manager to deploy E-Business Suite Linux 64-bit environments on compatible server-class machines running Oracle VM Server.  Alternatively, they can be imported into Oracle VM VirtualBox to create virtual machines on a desktop PC or laptop.

The virtual appliances deliver the full software stack, including the Oracle Linux 6.5 operating system, Oracle E-Business Suite, and additional required technology components.

The available Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.2.3 virtual appliances are:

  1. Single Node VISION Demo
  2. VISION Demo Database Tier
  3. Production (PROD) Database Tier
  4. Application Tier
  5. Sparse Application Tier

These appliances can be used to support the following scenarios:

  • Single node E-Business Suite 12.2.3 installation: Choose the single node VISION Demo virtual appliance (Option 1 above) to create a unified virtual machine with the EBS 12.2.3 database and application tiers.
  • Multi-node E-Business Suite 12.2.3 installation: Create a multi-node system using the database virtual appliance of choice (either VISION or PROD) and the application tier virtual appliance. That is, Option 2 or 3 above, followed by Option 4.  You can then add secondary application tiers using Option 5.
  • Operating system-only installation (Oracle Linux 6.5): The sparse application tier virtual appliance (Option 5) includes the necessary operating system packages, kernel parameter settings, and users (oracle and applmgr) required to install Oracle E-Business Suite, providing benefit for customers who plan to use Rapid Install for their 12.1.3 or 12.2.3 installation.

Creating an EBS R12 Instance Using the Express Install Option

The Oracle E-Business Suite Rapid Install provides an easy-to-use Express Install option. This option sets default values for several of the customizable inputs that the Apps DBA must enter in subsequent screens. Express Install is convenient for test instance setup as well as for training purposes. Note that this option is valid only for new installations and cannot be used for upgrades.

How to Use Express Install?

Assuming that you have met all the prerequisites to perform a Rapid Install on your machine based on the platform specific installation guides, Express Install can be performed using rapidwiz. The inputs required to use Express install are:

1. Oracle Configuration Manager

    • Email ID and the My Oracle Support password
    • Check box indicating if you would like to receive Security Updates via My Oracle Support.

2. Configuration choice

Here you specify whether you would like to create a new configuration or use an existing configuration file that has been saved from a previous run of rapidwiz.

3. Node information (if you have chosen to create new configuration above)

Specify the following parameters:

  • Database Type (Fresh database or Vision)
  • Database SID
  • Domain name
  • Base directory for the installation (by default, entire install including APPL_TOP and DB is placed in this directory)
  • Instance directory (default value is <base directory>/inst )
  • Port pool

That's it!  After making sure that the System Checks all pass in the Preinstall Checks window that follows, you are ready to perform an Express Install.  After this, the installation proceeds requiring no human intervention.  Upon completion of the install, you are ready to use the EBS instance.

Can it get any easier?

New Rapid Install StartCD (12.0.0.22) for Release 12

A new Rapid Install startCD, patch 5885627, for E-Business Suite Release 12 is now available for download from Metalink.  This new Rapid Install startCD (Version 12.0.0.22) fixes a dozen installation-related issues for Release 12.

This patch can be uncompressed on top of any previous R12 startCD under the main staging area.  Following our standard support policies, this is the only startCD version supported at this point.  If you report problems with prior R12 startCDs, it's likely that you'll be asked to apply this version before advanced debugging can proceed.

What's New?

This new startCD has two high-priority fixes:
  • 5939781 : INVALID ORACLE HOME NAME FORMAT (HYPHEN)
  • 5947071 : CONVERT
CHARACTER SET (ADDCCNV.SQL) FAILS WITH ORA-600
The first fix resolves a problem where the registration of the ORACLE_HOME fails if the machine name has a hyphen (e.g.
atg-sun.us.oracle.com).  The second fix resolves a problem where the database conversion fails with ORA-600 on Windows platforms.

In addition, the new startCD also fixes the following bugs:
  • 5757402 : EDIT PATHS FORM NOT RETAINING PATHS IF YOU NAVIGATE
    BACKWARDS
  • 5769619 : ADAUTOSTG.PL MENU ENHANCEMENT
  • 5735127 : CURRENT
INSTALL MECHANISM DOES NOT SUPPORT FOR NEW OS VERSIONS
  • 5754396 : RI.RIW:
RAPIDWIZ DOES NOT PRESERVE VALUES ON TRAVERSING
  • 5860525 : UNINSTANTIATED
    VARIABLES TEST FAILS
  • 5916075 : SILENT INSTALL IS FAILING ON
    WINDOWS
  • 5893147 : POST CHECKS FAIL AFTER USING RAPID INSTALL TO UPDATE
    CONFIGURATION
  • 5922016 : JDBC CONNECTION TEXT SHOULD BE GENERIC
  • 5893659 :
SILENT INSTALL IS FAILING WITH JAVA EXCEPTION
  • 5934198 : AT RAPIDWIZ SESSION, ADDBCCNV.SQL
    : ORA-01012: NOT LOGGED ON
