Eight Fusion Middleware Hands-On Labs at OAUG Collaborate09

Collaborate OAUG logo

It's that time of year once more and I wanted to share some thoughts as you start to plan out your schedules for the OAUG Collaborate 09 conference in Orlando in May. Once again, this promises to be a huge combined event for all Oracle Applications customers.  Registration is open and hotels are filling up fast. If you're still planning on attending but haven't registered yet, you might want to think about doing so shortly.

The Fusion Middleware team offered hands-on labs for the first time last year. These proved very popular, with standing-room only attendance.  This year the labs cover Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), Applications Integration Architecture (AIA), Business Process Analysis, Identity Management, and Business Intelligence (BI) Apps with Oracle Applications. There are eight hands-on labs this year, all led by Oracle experts:

  • Service-enable Oracle E-Business Suite with Oracle SOA Suite BPEL Process Manager
  • Service-enable PeopleSoftwith Oracle SOA Suite BPEL Process Manager
  • Service-enable JD Edwards EnterpriseOne with Oracle SOA Suite BPEL Process Manager
  • Service-enable Siebel CRM with Oracle SOA Suite BPEL Process Manager
  • AIA: Best Practices Integration to Oracle Applications using AIA Foundation Pack
  • BPA: Model and Automate Oracle Applications' Processes using BPA Suite
  • BI Apps: Dashboard and Reports using Oracle Business Intelligence Applications for E-Business Suite
  • IdM: Automate, Secure, and Audit Your E-Business Suite and PeopleSoft Applications with Oracle Identity Management

The hands-on labs are offered Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday for 9 sessions in total.  They're open to all registered Collaborate attendees but require advance registration.  You can find more details about the labs and reserve your seat here:

This caught my eye:  lab attendees get a chance to win a new 4GB iPod Shuffle at each workshop!

Want to Meet at Collaborate?

Events like Collaborate are also a great chance for us to meet face-to-face. If you want to set up some time with me, shoot me an email as soon as possible.

Look forward to seeing you at Collaborate!

Getting Ready for Collaborate 08

I'm deep in Northern India on vacation right now.  Despite the sensory overload, I'm having a marvelous time.  Getting net access here is an adventure, to put it mildly.  In the midst of all this, I realized that I had this article all queued up -- thanks to the talents of one of my colleagues in the Fusion Middleware team.

As you start to plan your schedules for the Collaborate conference coming up in Denver in April.  This promises to be a huge combined event for all Oracle Applications customers. Registration is now open and hotels are going fast, as usual.  If you're planning to go but haven't signed up yet, I'd advise doing so
soon.

Something New:  Free Hands-On SOA Workshops

Here's one more good reason to attend Collaborate this year: For the first time, Oracle is offering free "Service Enable E-Business Suite" hands-on workshops for registered conference attendees.  Seats are limited, so be sure to reserve a space in one of the three workshop times if you're interested.  You can find detailed information on the OAUG website.

Getting Past The Hype

Why is this important? Numerous presentations at Oracle Open World, Collaborate etc. have been talking about Service Oriented Architectures (SOA ) and Oracle E-Business Suite. Unfortunately, too often, those were limited to Powerpoint slides filled with marketing-speak. The hands-on workshops will provide a deeper level of technical detail  -- end-to-end across E-Business Suite and Oracle BPEL Process Manager. Think of it as actually experiencing yourself what Jim Van Heel
was writing about in his blog post "Service Enable 11i-Get a Jump on Fusion". If you also run Siebel, PeopleSoft or JDE in your company, you can sign up for those
workshops, too.

Notable Sessions

Unsure what other sessions
to attend at Collaborate? Here are a few recommendations:

For a complete list of all sessions see the OAUG schedule here. You can set the Track to "Architecture" and Products to "E-Business Suite" to restrict the search.

Getting Some Face Time

Collaborate is also an excellent chance for us to meet, either for a quick update or for an in-depth discussion about your deployments and requirements.  I tend to book up quickly so if you'd like to arrange a meeting with me, drop me a line as soon as possible.

I look forward to seeing you there.
