IBM AIX Certified with Oracle Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory 10g 10.1.4.3 and EBS 12

We announced our certification of Oracle Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory 10.1.4.3 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 a few weeks ago.  The only exception to that certification at the time was for Apps 12 running on IBM AIX platform.

We've completed that certification now.  IBM AIX customers running Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 may now upgrade their external Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory components to 10.1.4.3.

Oracle Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory 10g 10.1.4.3 Certified With EBS 11i and R12

[Update March11, 2009: AIX is now certified with SSO/OID 10.1.4.3 and Apps 12. See this article for more details.

[Editor's note: Oracle version numbers sometimes require careful scrutiny.  Hidden meaning can be discerned from seemingly-insignificant details.  You may have noticed that the Oracle Identity Management 10g components fissioned off into their own release codeline a while ago.  All Oracle Identity Management components whose version numbers start with "10.1.4" have their own maintenance patchsets now.  These are distinct from -- but compatible with -- the other components in Oracle Application Server 10g released on the "10.1.2" codeline.  Our E-Business Suite teams certify patchsets on both the 10.1.2.x and 10.1.4.x release codelines with the E-Business Suite.]

Oracle Single Sign-On (SSO) and Oracle Internet Directory (OID) 10g 10.1.4.3 are now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12. Existing Apps environments integrated with earlier version of SSO and OID can be upgraded to the 10.1.4.3 Patch Set. Customers on Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory 10.1.2.0.2 must first upgrade to 10.1.4.0.1 before applying the 10.1.4.3 Patch Set. If you've already upgraded your SSO and OID components to 10.1.4.2, you may apply the 10.1.4.3 Patch Set directly.

Update: Using EBS 12 Portlets in Third-Party Portals

I've been puzzled by a resurgence in questions about the compatibility of E-Business Suite Release 12 portlets with third-party portals.  I thought that I'd already covered this FAQ a few times on this blog, but searching through our archives, I see that I haven't revisited this topic formally since R12 was released.  It's time for a quick refresher and update on what's supported in this release.

Oracle Business Approvals for Managers Now Available for iPhone

[January 28, 2009 Update:  Added information on where to download this software]

business approvals for managers iphone-expense-report-screenshot.png

As an enthusiastic Apple iPhone user, I am very pleased to see that our Applications Unlimited team has released their newest iPhone application:  Oracle Business Approvals for Managers.  This free (!) iPhone application allows managers to handle pending E-Business Suite actions related to expense reports, purchase order requisitions, human resources vacancies, and HR job offers.  Managers can use this mobile app to evaluate pending EBS approvals, request more information, and approve or reject pending requests.

This iPhone app builds on the Oracle Business Indicators iPhone application.  Oracle Business Approvals for Managers provides optional access to analytic reports related to the type of approval that users are reviewing.  This configuration retrieves data from Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Plus (OBIEE) or Oracle Business Intelligence Applications.  All communications are secured via SSL encryption and may be optionally integrated with Oracle Identity Management components, too.

Another airport stopover, another eagerly-awaited certification announcement.  Nice to do something productive while I'm sitting here waiting for my flight to be called.  I'm pleased to announce that Oracle Application Server 10g 10.1.2.3 is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.  Specifically, the following OracleAS 10.1.2.3 components are now certified for external integration with Apps 12 environments:

Discoverer 10.1.2.3 Certified with Apps 11i

I'm still on vacation but can't resist posting about new certifications from my team.  Michael Armstrong-Smith has been diligently (and correctly, of course) reminding EBS users that they should hold off on upgrading to Discoverer 10.1.2.3 until it's certified with the E-Business Suite Release 11i.

The wait is over:  Discoverer 10.1.2.3 is now certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i 11.5.10.2 and higher.

Three Options for Scaling Up E-Business Suite for Reporting

[Oct 10, 2008 Update: Added link to article comparing the use of Oracle Active Data Guard with Oracle Data Guard for EBS environments]

The run-up to our annual OpenWorld conference consists of frenzied activities to ensure that all of our planned certifications wrap up in time to be announced at the conference.  The follow-up from OpenWorld consists of handling questions, bug reports, and escalations from our sessions, panels, and private customer meetings.  Given that this is all on top of our regular day jobs, one day I'm going to print up some t-shirts that say, "I survived another Oracle OpenWorld."

So, back in the blogging saddle again. I'll address one of the architectural questions that seems to pop perennially:

How do I handle heavy reporting overhead without disrupting my E-Business Suite instance's transactional users?  Can I offload this to a separate reporting instance?

OracleAS 10.1.2.3 Certified for Portal 10g + EBS 11i Integrations

Accompanying my announcement earlier today about Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise to hear that OracleAS 10.1.2.3 may now be applied to Portal 10.1.4 environments that have been integrated with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i.

Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory 10.1.2.3 Certified with EBS 11i

[Sept 22 Update: Sorry, folks -- moving too fast. This certification covers only EBS 11i, not Release 12 as stated incorrectly in an earlier version of this article. Title and contents revised to refer to Release 11i only.]

OpenWorld 2008 has started with a vengeance.  I estimate that in any given hour, there are 50 to 60 sessions going on simultaneously. In the midst of all of this frenzied activity I'm struggling to keep up with our announcements. Here's another certification (with more to follow later today): Oracle Single Sign-On and Oracle Internet Directory 10.1.2.3 have been certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12.

Filling Up Your OpenWorld 2008 Calendar

Apparently, there's this big Oracle conference coming up in a few weeks... A recent wave of emails have been requests to profile certain OpenWorld 2008 events. In addition to the sessions that I'll be personally involved in, in some capacity or another, here are some EBS techstack-related things going at OpenWorld this year that you'll want to add to your calendar:

OracleAS 10.1.2.2 Certified with EBS 11i and 12

Screenshot%20of%20Patchset%204960210%20download%20screen.png

We wrapped up a new certification over the long weekend, but it's a bit of a strange one. We had originally not planned to do this certification at all, for reasons that might be clearer by the end of this article.

However, a suitably large number of you have requested it explicitly, so we revisited that decision.  This is an object lesson in the principle that it never hurts to ask. On to the actual certification announcement:

Oracle Application Server and Oracle Developer Suite 10g Release 2 (10.1.2) Patch Set 2 (10.1.2.2.0) (Patchset 4960210) is now certified for use with E-Business Suite Release 11i and 12 environments. This certification covers all platforms for which this OracleAS patchset is available.

Now for the odd part...
