What Happened to E-Business Suite Release 12.0.5?

[May 29, 2008 update:  They don't meet the definition of a Release Update Pack that's been used for R12 so far, but two 12.0.5 product family updates for the Financials and HRMS product families are now available.  See this article for details.]

Up until now, a new E-Business Suite Release 12.0.x Release Update Pack (RUP) has been released in the same general time-frame as each new Oracle Critical Patch Update (CPU).  For example, the January 2008 Critical Patch Update was released concurrently with the E-Business Suite 12.0.4 Release Update Pack.

This pattern changed with the recent Oracle Critical Patch Update for April 2008.  The April 2008 CPU was not released concurrently with a corresponding E-Business Suite Release 12.0.5 Release Update Pack.  Sharp-eyed readers have asked whether an upcoming Release 12.0.5 is still in the pipeline.

Here's an update on our plans, based on what was being shared in various sessions at last week's Collaborate conference (notably, Cliff Godwin's sessions):  As of today, it appears that there are no plans for Release 12.0.5.  Instead, it appears that new Family Packs for Financials and Human Resources (HRMS) are planned for customers currently on the 12.0.x codeline.

It's important to note that this is breaking news and is still subject to change.  As usual, I'm afraid that I don't have any information about dates for these updates.  I'll provide more details about our plans for these forthcoming updates as soon as they're available.

Steven,

Thanks for posting this. There was a lot of expectation and confusion regarding the next steps for R12 customers.

Any movement on the Solaris installation bug? I saw that a note was updated 4/21. Is that the same bug?

Good to see you at the show and I'll be thanking Nadia for all of her support when she gets back from vacation...

thx,
John

John,Good to see you at the show, too.Our Platforms Engineering and Release teams are still working on the Solaris installation issue.  Their hope is to get the fix incorporated into the next version of the StartCD, rather than recutting the actual installation media. In the meantime, the 12.0.4 Installation Notes have been updated with the following advisory:Installation of EBS on a Veritas (VxFS) filesystem The installation of EBS 12.0.4, which includes the 10.2.0.3 version of the database, may fail when the database is hosted on a Veritas (VxFS) filesystem. The error message during the creation of the control file is typically something like:SVR4 Error: 25: Inappropriate ioctl for device This is a known issue with the Solaris 10.2.0.3 database on the VxFS filesystem - see OracleMetaLink Note.405825.1. Customers who are upgrading their existing Release 12 databases to 10.2.0.3 should apply the database patch 5752399. We are currently exploring possible workarounds and fixes for customers installing 12.0.4 with the 10.2.0.3 database on VxFS filesystems. Please contact Oracle Support while this known issue exists for further updates. Regards,Steven
