Want to Meet at OpenWorld 2008?

[Aug 19, 2008 Update: Added time and location for the Middleware Special Interest Group, added the new Meet the Experts session]

OpenWorld 2008 is coming on us a bit earlier this year. It's going to be another big show. If you plan to join us for this year's conference and haven't signed up yet, I hear that hotels are filling up fast. As usual, I will be presenting on several of the popular topics covered on this blog, participating in various Special Interest Group sessions and expert panels, and having personal meetings with you to discuss E-Business Suite architecture topics of your choice. Want to get together to talk at OpenWorld?

My OpenWorld 2008 Sessions

Here's a list of my currently confirmed sessions:

Using Oracle Application Server 10g with Oracle E-Business Suite (Session ID: S298388)
Track: Oracle E-Business Suite
Room: Rm 2007
Date: 2008-09-24
Start Time: 11:30
This packed session will cover the use of the E-Business Suite with optional external integrations such as Oracle Single Sign-On, Oracle Internet Directory, Oracle Access Manager, Oracle Identity Manager, Discoverer, Portal, Web Center, Web Cache, and even integration with third-party identity management tools such as Microsoft Active Directory and Windows Native Authentication. I'll also give you a glimpse into some of the upcoming external integrations in our certification pipeline.  The audience Q&A part of this session usually ends up spilling over into the hallway for an hour or more afterwards, so you're welcome to throw your burning questions into the pool for everyone's collective enlightenment.

Advanced Deployment Architectures for Oracle E-Business Suite (Session ID: S298389)
Track: Oracle E-Business Suite
Room: Rm 2002/04
Date: 2008-09-25
Start Time: 13:30
This will be a joint session with Ivo Dujmovic, the EBS Architect who owns the E-Business Suite techstack and everything associated with E-Business Suite configurations, including the AutoConfig engine and its associated templates. We'll be covering a variety of configurations that are less-intimidating than they sound, including Real Application Clusters (RAC), load-balancing, and externally-integrated components from Oracle Application Server 10g. We plan to reserve lots of time for audience Q&A, too.

Protect Application Data with Oracle Database Vault: Oracle E-Business Suite and Siebel and PeopleSoft Product Lines (Session ID: S298262)
Track: Database
Room: Rm 102
Date: 2008-09-24
Start Time: 13:00
This will be an overview session covering the use of Database Vault with various Applications Unlimited products, including the E-Business Suite. Oracle presenters will include development staff from the Database Vault team and each of the Applications Unlimited ERP suites (including me, of course).

OAUG Middleware Special Interest Group
Room: Moscone West 3007
Date: 2008-09-21
Time: 2:15 PM
I'll be covering our latest E-Business Suite techstack certifications and give you a glimpse into our certification pipeline for upcoming new integrations and technology.

Meet The Experts
Room: Moscone West Level 2 Applications Lounge
Date: 2008-09-24
Time: 9:00 AM - approx. 10:45 AM
This will be a roundtable (or "Town Hall") style discussion with myself, other EBS techstack specialists from Development, and your customer peers in various industries. Bring your questions, concerns, and other hot topics for this session. These tend to be fairly freewheeling discussions, so the agenda's open. However, in the interest of making sure that we get to everyone's questions broadly, I'd prefer to conduct in-depth customer-specific architectural reviews in private meetings.

These details sometimes change at the last minute, so make sure that you check the daily conference schedule updates if you plan to

Want to Meet to Discuss Your EBS Environment?

One of the highlights for any conference is meeting with you personally to discuss your E-Business Suite deployments. I'm particularly interested in hearing about your experiences with some of our latest technology stack upgrades and advanced configurations.  If you're implementing anything new in your environment, such as EBS Release 12, the 11gR1 Database, RAC, Single Sign-On, Web Center, load-balancing, new security features, or anything that you might consider exotic, I'd be very pleased to meet with you.

In the past, I've used these face-to-face meetings at OpenWorld as brainstorming sessions for new techstack requirements, also, so if you have burning questions or unmet operational needs around our technology stack, this is a great opportunity to discuss these directly with Apps Development. If you give me enough lead time, I might even be able to pull in experts from other areas, too.

Drop me an email if you'd like to get together at OpenWorld.

May I propose a town hall style meeting where more than one person / group can address questions to you and get your valued response.
Many who cannot make it to the conference may e-mail you the questions in advance / post them on the blog. Perhaps, top ten of the FAQ among those can be chosen to be answered along with live audience questions.

I concur. The session we had last OAUG was invaluable.

Hi, John, OCP Advisor:

I'd be happy to take "Town Hall" style questions at either the Sunday Middleware Special Interest Group session (see above) or the new Thursday "Meet The Experts" session that was just added to my agenda.

Also, I'll be dropping in on the Sunday 11am Upgrade and 1pm SysAdmin Special Interest Group sessions, too. If I can field any questions that come up during those sessions, I'll be glad to jump into the discussion.

If anyone reading this thread has questions that they'd like answered at the conference (and on this blog), please feel free to post them as comments here, or drop me a private email.

I'm also considering hosting a post-conference webcast or conference call. This might give folks another chance to chat with us directly in Development.

Thanks for attending the Upgrade SIG meeting. It's always invaluable to have the Oracle "rock star" in case we hit those tough questions especially about availability dates...:-))))
