Sun Java 1.5.0_07 Plug-in for Windows Early Adopter Program Participants

We've been running an Early Adopter Program that allows you to replace or augment JInitiator clients with the native Sun Java plug-in for Windows.

What's New?

We've just released Build 5, which supports the use of Sun Java 1.5.0_07 with the E-Business Suite for Windows desktop clients.

In addition to native Java issues resolved by the latest Sun Java plug-in, Build 5 resolves issues with accented character sets in Apps Forms (Oracle bug 5248128).

Early Adopter Program participants experiencing issues with accented characters, can install the Sun Java 1.5.0_07 plug-in along with Oracle patch 5092277.  See Section 6 of the Build 5 documentation for more details.

If you haven't already received a private copy of the documentation, emailed earlier to all Early Adopter Program participants, please contact me directly.

Upgrading from Earlier Builds

No changes to the interoperability patch levels are required.  In other words, if you've installed Build 4 (i.e. interoperability patch 4377566), you're already at the latest required patch level for Java 1.5.0_07.

Interested in Registering?

We're still actively seeking new participants for this Early Adopter Program.  If your organisation is interested in participating, please see this article for supported architectures, program terms, and registration details.

suggestion:
if browser has some JRE already, do not persist to download special version. For example, browser has Sun JRE1.6.0X, 11i needs 1.5.07deltaX. It can work in 1.6, 1.5.09 etc. 11i may check client JRE version and if it find more recent version than certified it must work on such JRE.
Main JRE disadvantage is its size - 12-15Mb versus 8Mb Jinitiator. But most clients has some JRE installed and in such case 11i can quickly run.

Lev, thanks for your comments.  Glad to hear that's working for you.For the rest of our readers, it's important to note that only Jinitiator is certified to work with the E-Business Suite today.  There are known issues with other JVMs today, particularly around focus control, and we're working directly with Sun to get these resolved in a future JRE release (or patch).  Those bugs are really the only things holding us back from making this configuration Generally Available today.Regards,Steven

Steven,

Any new plans to certify the Sun JRE with 11i? I've only been able to find the early adopter information.

thx,
John

John,We're still waiting for a fix from Sun for an issue with focus management.  Sun hasn't provided us with a firm date for this fix yet. In the meantime, any customers interested in working with this configuration are still welcome to participate in our Early Adopter Program.  Regards,Steven

Steven,

We would like to participate in this program and utilize one of our new 11.5.10.2 environments to test out worldwide. We'll do the build and everything and forward the comments on to you. I just need the patch and the documents if you agree.

thx,
John
