Seven New Platforms Certified for Apps 11i + Database Vault 10.2.0.4

This complements the Apps 12-corresponding announcement:  Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i has been certified with seven new platforms for DB Vault 10gR2 (10.2.0.4).  This configuration is now certified with the following new operating system platforms:

Fully Certified E-Business Suite 11i Platforms:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
  • Microsoft Windows Server 2003 (32-bit x86)
  • HP-UX PA-RISC 11.11, 11.23, 11.31

Split Configuration (Database Tier Only) 11i Platforms:

  • Oracle Enterprise Linux versions 4 and 5 (64-bit) on x86-64
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux versions 3, 4, and 5 (64-bit) on x86-64
  • Novell SUSE Enterprise Linux versions 9 and 10 (64-bit) on x86-64
  • HP-UX Itanium 11.23, 11.31

Still In Progress

You can probably infer from this article that our Applications Platform Group has one or two projects to keep them busy during the day.  They're still working on the certification of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i and DB Vault 10.2.0.4 certification on Microsoft Windows x64 (split configuration platform).  You're welcome to monitor or subscribe to this blog for updates, which I'll post as soon as soon as they're available.

Hello, Kimberly,

Yes. Both IBM AIX and Sun Solaris SPARC are fully supported platforms for both the application tier and database tiers for your targetted configuration. This means that you can run application and database components on either platform.

Currently I need to upgrade the database from 10g to 11g, the show stopper is the Vault which not certified with 11g, so any info for the certification date.

Hello, Hassan,

We're just finalizing a couple of patches for the 11gR1 Database Vault certification right now.

I don't have firm schedules for this certification yet, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to my E-Business Suite Technology Stack blog (http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan) for updates, which I'll post as soon as soon as they're available.

Hello, Hassan,

We're just finalizing a couple of patches for the 11gR1 Database Vault certification right now. If you haven't already implemented Database Vault in your existing 10gR2 environment, you can begin your migration to the 11gR1 database now and implement Database Vault once it's certified.

I don't have firm schedules for this certification yet, but you're welcome to monitor or subscribe to my E-Business Suite Technology Stack blog (http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan) for updates, which I'll post as soon as soon as they're available.

Steven,
I have oracle apps 11i(11.5.10.2) on HP-UX RISK with database tier(9.2.0.7) on another node, also HP_UX RISK. Can I move my database tier to HP-UX itanium 11.31? Is that certified? Thanks much!

Hi Dehua,

I'm taking over for Steven while he is on vacation.

What you really want here is to leverage the transportable tablespaces feature, as described in an earlier blog post: http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2010/04/10gr2_xtts_ebs11i.html . However, this feature only exists in Oracle Server 10gR2 and later. For Release 9 of the database, I believe your only option when changing platforms is a full database export and import.

With extended support for Release 9.2 of the database ending next month, however, I assume your main goal here is to upgrade the database, but change platforms in the process. In that case, you may want to open a support ticket with the database group to discuss whether it makes sense to upgrade to 10gR2 or 11gR2 on HP-UX PA RISC, convert to transportable tablespaces, then simply move them over to an Itanium platform. If there are no technical hurdles to this, it may be a faster route overall.

Hope this helps,
Keith M. Swartz
