Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.4 Certified with E-Business Suite 11i

Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.4 was certified with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12.0 earlier this year.  Our Applications Technology Group has just released their certification of Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.4 with Oracle E-Business Suite Release 11i.

If you missed that earlier announcement, here's a recap of the basics. Secure Enterprise Search (SES) provides new search capabilities for EBS: Apps users can search for E-Business Suite data using a unified search engine, with search results displayed based upon their Applications responsibilities. Searches can be performed on structured and unstructured data. Notably, search results respect multi-level security, including:
  • Role-based access control (RBAC) functional and data security
  • Product-specific security policies

For example, an authorized E-Business Suite user could use the search screen above to search for "Assets" in "Northpark," yielding the following results:

Introducing the Search Modeller

This certification also has an added bonus:  it includes the new Search Modeler for E-Business Suite customers.  Search Modeler Version 1.1 is certified with Apps 11i as well as Apps 12 releases.

Search Modeler is a web-based tool that allows you to create search solutions tailored to your business needs. You can create search solutions for any E-Business Suite product. In most cases you can also include custom application objects as part of your search solution, if your custom applications as registered in the EBS Application Object Library.

Hi Steven,

This is exciting. Can you compare Secure Search to a custom bolt-on such as a Lucene search in terms of performance, features, etc. (apart from the fact that you now don't need a bolt on). This would be useful for those considering integrating such text searches, potentially relieving the database from querying unstructured data.

Hi, John,

Yes, we're pleased about this certification. I'm afraid that I'm not familiar with third-party bolt-ons in this area, so I can't provide any meaningful comparisons between them and Oracle's Secure Enterprise Search.

Good luck with your evaluation. I'd be interested in hearing more about your assessment and your plans for this integration in the future.

Regards,
Steven

John

There are lots of differences between SES integration with E-Business Suite and any other integration you may have experienced with other tools. I'll provide you with a more detailed response in a private email.

Thanks

Hi vasu rao,

We are also considering integration of SES with E-Business Suite. Would you please share the more detailed response in this blog or send me an email as well?

Thanks in advance.
Jennifer.

Hi Steven,

Is Secure Enterprise Search certified with ebusiness suite 12.1.2 on Red Hat v5? If yes what version should we be installing?

Regards
Vivek

Hi, Vivek,

We certified SES with 12.1.2 last year; see this article:

Secure Enterprise Search 10.1.8.4 Certified with EBS 12
http://blogs.oracle.com/stevenChan/2009/03/secure_enterprise_search_10184_certified_with_ebs12.html

RHEL 5 wasn't on the list of platforms certified with SES at the time, but that may have changed since then. My team only tests SES with the E-Business Suite. The SES team is responsible for testing SES on various platforms like RHEL 5.

Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of the SES specialists engaged.

Regards,
Steven
