New Support Changes for Apps 11.5.9 and 11.5.10

[Apr 28, 2008 Update:  There are now separate Lifetime Support documents for Oracle Applications and Oracle Technology Products.  The former has been updated with the new information below.]

Chuck Phillips announced two important changes to the support windows for E-Business Suite 11.5.9 and 11.5.10 at the OAUG Collaborate conference in Denver this week.

What's Changed for 11.5.10 Support?

Premier Support for 11.5.10 is being extended by one year from November 2009 to November 2010. Extended Support for 11i10 will begin in December 2010 and end November 2013. 11i10 will move to Sustaining Support in December 2013.

What's Changed for 11.5.9 Support?

Premier Support for 11.5.9 still officially ends in June 2008.  However, the first year of Sustaining Support for 11.5.9 will include resolution of priority one technical assistant requests. 11.5.9 users in the U.S. will also receive 1099 support for the first year of Sustaining Support.

What Are Premier and Sustaining Support?

Each support category covers different things.  Here's the latest published summary table as of today:

A Word of Advice

I understand that these changes were made in response to customer feedback provided through the OAUG Support Council. The driving force behind the request was for customers to have more time to plan for their upgrades. 

As such, although you have more breathing space now, the clock is on -- particularly for 11.5.9 users.  If you're still on that release, it's time to start considering your upgrade strategy as soon as possible.

US customers require updates to the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS) tax forms. These are referred to as US 1099 Tax Updates. These updates will be included as part of the Sustaining Support updates for E-Business Suite 11.5.9.

Note that I'm not a tax specialist, so if you're looking for more details about how to obtain and apply these updates, I'd recommend logging a formal Service Request with the Oracle Financials product team via Metalink.

do you recommend to upgrade 11.5.10 to 12.1.1 or still it is not stable enough.

Hi, Husam,

I'd be equally comfortable recommending R12.1.1. That release offers many, many new features and improvements over Release 11i, so you should involve your business users in the upgrade decision from 11i to 12.

There is, but I'm in Development and not Support Sales, so I don't know what those pricing differences are. I'd recommend contacting your Oracle account manager to help you with a quotation for support contracts.

We're trying do some long term planning. I see that 11.5.10 is set to move to Sustaining Support come December 2013. Will Oracle be providing 1099 updates for 11.5.10 during sustaining support? If so, for how long?

Thanks for your question about 11.5.10 -- I can't seem to find any references to 1099 updates for that release after the end of Premier Support. I'm looking into this right now, and will post an update here as soon as I track this information down.

Our Support team has confrmed that 1099 Updates are a component of Extended Support, which is available for the 11.5.10 release once Premier Support expires. 1099 Updates are not provided as part of Sustaining Support.

We have also waived the Extended Support fee for the first year of 11.5.10 Extended Support, which in effect means that all customers would continue to receive the 1099 updates through November 2011. If anyone would like to continue to receive the 1099 updates after November 2011, then they would need to purchase Extended Support.

Thanks for the info but I don't know if it is answers my question. Let me explain:
Come December 2013, 11.5.10 to moves to Sustaining Support. According to the response, I could conclude that 1099 Updates for tax year 2013 will not be provided. However, since the application was in extended support for 11/12 of the year, I could reasonably expect a 1099 update for tax year 2013. That, combined with the precedent set in 11.5.9 (11.5.9 users in the U.S. will also receive 1099 support for the first year of Sustaining Support.) leaves me trying to figure out just when the last 1099 update for 11.5.10 will be issued. Will it be for tax year 2012, 2013, 2014 or something else?

Here's the response that I got back from the team that owns this area (slightly edited):


It's important to understand that Oracle provided the 1099 on 11.5.9 for
2008 & 2009 as our response to customers who were suffering set backs due to the economic climate. In other words, we knew some customers could not afford to upgrade, and Oracle tried hard to accommodate that. This was not specific to EBS; there were many products that made similar decisions.

It is difficult to say what will happen in 2013. Our current plan is that no 1099 will be provided. However, that is something that Oracle might change, it's just too far ahead for any organization to count on it. Historically, ACS has provided a service where, for a fee, they provide the 1099 and support it. It is certainly possible that that will be available also.

But right now, given how far in advance this is, it is difficult difficult to speculate about what might happen in 2013.

I reviewed the 11.5.10 Application Life time support notes also and in StevenChan blog.
It tells the Application 11.5.10 Premier Suppoer ends by November 2010.

But the database Life time supprt document tells, the database 10GR2 (10.2) Premier support
ends by Jul 2010.

Some times Oracle provides a seperate dates for EBS customers for Apps and Database combinations.

Question is, when Application 11.5.10 Premier Support ends by Nov 2010, does this applies to the database 10GR2(10.2) we get Premier support til Nov 2010 or Jul 2010?

Hi, Srini,

The E-Business Suite's support windows are dictated by the E-Business Suite Lifetime Support policy. The E-Business Suite (i.e. the applications product code for Financials, Human Resources, Supply Chain, and other E-Business Suite products) is supported under Premier Support until November 2010.

The E-Business Suite can run on a variety of database releases, including 10gR2, 11gR1, and 11gR2. The support windows for each of those database releases is dictated by the Technology Lifetime Support policy.

As you've correctly noted, Premier Support for 10gR2 ends in July 2010. This is regardless of the application running on that database release (including the E-Business Suite).

If you plan to continue to run your E-Business Suite 11i environment after July 2010, you should plan on upgrading your EBS database to a later release still covered by Premier Support, i.e. either 11gR1 or 11gR2.

I have a avery small query.
Can Polish Legislation be implemented on Oracle 11.5.9?
Or do we need to have a higher version?

I don't have any expertise with Polish localizations and their prerequisites. Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged.

Hi Steven,

One of the users has a requirement to access an 11.5.9 instance on Windows 7. Could you confirm if the browser used is IE 6 or IE 7 on Windows 7 would they still be able to access 11.5.9? I have looked at the certification matrix and it does not appear that certifications exists for client machines such as Windows 7, XP, Vista.

Hi Vikas,

Windows 7 comes with IE8 as the default browser. 11.5.9 was never certified with either Windows 7 or the IE8 browser. It was certified on XP with IE6 & IE7 and also with Vista on IE7 before it reached end of life. Unfortunately I cannot guarantee that 11.5.9 would run on Windows 7 using IE8.
