EBS 12 Certified With SLES 10 on Linux x86 and x86-64

[Update Jan 6, 2009: This certification was done by our Applications Platforms Group, not our Applications Performance Group. Corrected.]

It never fails.  Just when I think I'm all prepared for a well-deserved vacation, a string of certifications comes along and I'm totally slammed.

Just in time for the holidays, our Applications Platforms Group has released another certification:  Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 is now certified on Novell's SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (32-bit and 64-bit) on the x86 and x86-64 hardware architectures.

Certified Platforms

  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (32-bit) on Linux x86/x86-64
  • SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (64-bit) on Linux x86-64

Comments:

Hi Steve,

I came across this article whilst looking for certification information for Solaris x86 running Ebiz R12, for which I believe is only certified in a mixed configuration where the database tier is certified on Solaris x86 only.

Excuse my lack of understanding, but is Solaris x86 not capable of hosting the apps tier as well?

Furthermore, a customer I am working with currently is asking if there is a process for getting Solaris x86 platform on the certification plan. I'm not sure if this would be possible and what kind of leverage/compelling reasons Oracle would require to get a platform on the certification plan, but any feedback would be helpful. BTW, the customer in question may want to pursue this using other channels as they are a major multinational company with a large Oracle deployment, but I just wanted to get a feeling from you if this sort of thing is possible first.

Thanks for your time and attention.

Hi Bhavin -
Currently Solaris x86-64 is only supported, as you've noted, as a database-tier only (aka split tier) platform wherein the EBS database can reside on it while the application or middle tier must be on a fully certified EBS platform. This information should also be in the Certifications tab of My Oracle Support.
We have no plans currently to port the EBS application tier to this platform - note that this is a full porting (not just a certification) effort involving numerous products and dependencies on a new platform (combination of hardware + OS) for which our code would have to be rebuilt. Please send me email privately on the details of this customer request and we will review.
thanks,
John
