Discoverer 11g (11.1.1.3) Certified with EBS on Twelve New Platforms

Oracle Business Intelligence Discoverer is an ad-hoc query, reporting, analysis, and Web-publishing tool that allows end-users to work directly with Oracle E-Business Suite OLTP data.

We certified Discoverer 11g version 11.1.1.3 (a.k.a. Patchset 2) with the E-Business Suite on six platforms last month.  Those certifications included Oracle Enterprise Linux, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, and SUSE Linux Enterprise Server.

We are experiencing performance issues with discoverer 10g with Ebusiness suite R12 , custom queries are running slow. Have 2 questions.

1) Is discoverer 10g compatible with R12 Ebusiness suite and 11g as database.

2) Are there any patches that needs to be applied on either side.

Hi, PN,

I'm sorry to hear that you're having trouble with this configuration. You're running a certified configuration, so it's likely that the performance issues are due to your custom queries. I would recommend doing some analysis to isolate the bottleneck in the queries, fine-tuning the queries as needed to reduce the impact on your database or middle-tier.

Steven

Hi,
I'm looking to upgrade a standalone Discoverer 10.1.2.3 to 11.1.1.3 for eBusiness Suite 11i10.2. Do I need a repository for the Discoverer, i.e. is it necessary to run the rcu.bat untility to create an additional repository or would a standalone 11.1.1.3 Discoverer run without an additional repository? I don't want to use and integration with either Single Sign-On or Identity Management.
Thanks for your answers,
Thomas

Hi, Thomas,

This is possible. See Note 1073963.1 for details.

I was wondering if all of the business areas from 10g are available in 11g for EBS R12? In the Oracle documentation, specifically note 1074326.1, there is a high level indication that the business areas are available, but there are no specifics. Can you advise?

Posted by Mark P on September 07, 2010 at 09:36 PM PDT #

Hi, Mark,

Remember that the E-Business Suite division produces Discoverer analytic content such as its workbooks and End-User Layer business areas (i.e. the Discoverer team only produces the analytic engine upon which this content runs). So, the Discoverer release doesn't affect the E-Business Suite analytic content available for that release.

Following that line of reasoning through, all of the Discoverer content released as part of Oracle E-Business Suite Release 12 is compatible with both Discoverer 10g and 11g.

Steven

Hi Steven,

We are doing a Technical Upgrade from Oracle 11.5.10 to R12.1 for one of our clients. For Reporting, client is using Discoverer Reports in the 11.5.10 Instance.

How the above task can be achieved?

Thanks,

Kirshnamoorthy,

Please see this article for EBS 12 upgrade resources:

You can refer to the generic Discoverer documentation for steps for upgrading Discoverer instances.

So my environment is such that I have a dedicated box for discoverer 11g pointing at my production EBS instance. When I clone PROD EBS to a development instance, I plan on having an additional Discoverer 11g box that runs all the Disco 11g web stuff (weblogic) for all my DEV instances.

I have yet to find any analyst or any documentation specific to Discoverer 11g/Weblogic on how exactly to do this. The idea of having a Dedicated Disco 11g/WLS box for every DEV instance seems a bit crazy.

Any suggestions on where I can get knowledgeable help on this? Weblogic Oracle Support knows nothing about Discoverer and Discoverer support doesn't get the weblogic part. If I follow the generic documentation for setting up Disco 11g, I'd end up with multiple WLS servers on the same box which just doesn't seem efficient , and even if I did go that route, I'd have to re-setup WLS after every clone...

Jay,

Sorry to hear that you're having trouble finding documentation for this kind of shared installation. This should be owned by the Fusion Middleware / Discoverer team (not the E-Business Suite division), so I'd need to engage someone in that team to help get to the bottom of this.

Do you have an SR open with this question? If yes, I can contact someone from Discoverer Support to escalate this.

Regards,
Steven

For others following in Jay's footsteps, this is documented in the Fusion Middleware documentation here:

Hi Steve,

We are planning to upgrade discoeverer 11g from 10g on SOLARIS SPARC.

I could not find the Repository Creation Utility (RCU) software for Solaris? For Linux and Windows I am able to find.

Please advise

Hi, Sudheer,

I'm afraid that I don't have any insight into this one. Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our Discoverer specialists engaged.

Steven

Hi, Vamshi,

The generic Discoverer upgrade documentation is available here. Like you, I can't seem to find platform-specific documentation. Your best bet would be to log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our Discoverer specialists engaged.

Hi Guru,

Im looking forward installing discoverer 11G on redhat linux 5.5 as 10G is not certified with this OS i think, on same server with my EBS R12 instance. Would someone suggest the correct document, and about the setup does it come all-together with the Oracle BI or?

Hi Steven,

The link is for Oracle Forms, Reports and Weblogic; I am looking for Oracle Discoverer standalone version on 64-bit Windows platform.

Thanks,

Subroto

Subroto,

Click on the link that says, " Oracle BI Discoverer Desktop and Discoverer Administrator 11.1.1.3.0 (standalone version)" and then scroll down the page until you see an entry for Discoverer.

If you have trouble downloading this, please feel free to log a Service Request; Discoverer Support can mail you physical media, if needed.

Regards,
Steven
