Latest Apps 11i Techstack (ATG RUP 7) Now Available

I'm very pleased to announce that the latest ATG Family Pack H Rollup 7 for the E-Business Suite Release 11i technology stack is now available for download from Metalink.

Screenshot of download page for patch 6241631

The official name for this patch is:

In other words, this is the seventh consolidated rollup of patches released on top of 11i.ATG_PF.H. For the Oracryptoanalysts out there who like to track nomenclature variants of these things, this patch is also referred to as the Applications Technology Group (ATG) Family Pack H Rollup 7.

This Rollup patch is a collection of technology-stack patches that can safely be applied on top of the ATG Family Pack H. This Rollup patch is cumulative: all previous patches released for Family Pack H since the initial 11.5.10 release are included in this latest patch, including:

Why Is This Rollup Important?

As with the previous ATG Rollup 6, we've spent a huge amount of effort both within the Applications Technology Group and across the entire Applications Suite to test and certify this Rollup patch.

Our focus for this latest Rollup has been to consolidate all known safe defect fixes, performance improvements and security enhancements into one well integrated and fully certified update. We also focused on eliminating as many "co-requisite" patches as possible (application product patches required to interoperate with new ATG Rollups), by working to restore backward compatibility with earlier application levels wherever possible.

Our standing recommendation is that all customers should make plans to move to Rollup 7 as quickly as possible, especially any customers who are not already at ATG Rollup 6.

Changes and Fixes in Rollup 7

Oracle Applications Technology 11i.ATG_PF.H.delta.7 (RUP7) contains Oracle Applications Technology (ATG) security fixes for core ATG products from the January 2005 Critical Patch Update (CPUJan2005) through the July 2009  Critical Patch Update (CPUJul2009).

The following core ATG products are included in 11i.ATG_PF.H.delta.7: FND, OAM, OWF, FWK, JTT, JTA, TXK, XDO, ECX, EC, AK, ALR, UMX, BNE, and FRM.

ATG Family Pack H Rollup 7 (11i.ATG_PF.H RUP 7, Patch 6241631) includes a range of new features and bug fixes for:

Full details about what's new in RUP7 are listed here:

Prerequisites

Oracle Applications Technology ATG_PF.H RUP7 can be applied only to an existing Oracle Applications Release 11.5.10.2 system.  If you don't already have a running Release 11.5.10.2 (11.5.10 CU2) system, then you must first install the Oracle E-Business Suite 11.5.10.2.

Special Advisory for Single Sign-On 10g Users

The SSO 10g Integration patch for Rollup 7 (Patch 6936696) has been released concurrently with this patch. It is available immediately for download. Details about upgrading your SSO-integrated environment to use this patch can be found in the latest version of Note 233436.1.

Supporting the Current and Previous ATG RUPs

Way back in 2006, in this blog's salad days, I posted this article:

Remember that our support baseline for the E-Business Suite is comprised of the current (N) and immediately preceding (N-1) ATG RUPs.  New EBS patches are tested and released on top of these two technology stack baseline configurations.

What Does This Have to do with ATG RUP 7?

Apps 11i ATG RUP 7 is supported along with ATG RUP 6.  In other words, if you encounter any issues with ATG RUP 6 or 7, we'll be able to release new E-Business Suite patches for those configurations as necessary.

If your Apps 11i environment is still running ATG RUP 5 or older, you will no longer be able to request new patches for those technology stack levels.  You can still get access to existing patches, of course.

A Short Aside About Related Support Policies

This is similar but not identical to the support policy for our Server Technologies and Fusion Middleware products, which I've discussed in more detail in these important articles:

Remember that our Server Technologies and Fusion Middleware support policies are subtly different and from EBS policies:  they support the current (N), as well as the immediately preceding (N-1) release for 12 months after the N release.

I think you mean RUP7 in the section above.

Very cool news regardless. Thanks as always for the blog

Hi, Jay,

Indeed, that was a typo. Corrected now; thanks for catching that.

I look forward to hearing about your experiences with this RUP.

Hi Steve,

I successfully applied this patch, but after this patch concurrent manager status is showing down in OAM. But all concurrent managers and all application services are running fine. I even see the know issues document but no bugs reported yet.

Have you heard of any issue after RUP7 with following symptoms?

We applied AD.I.7 and ATG.RUP7 as part of our HRMS.K.RUP4 patches and I'm seeing a consistant situation where when you submit a concurrent request (like active user report) the 'Find Request' window will not auto-close on the first submit. You can close it and then submit more requests and it will close as it shoudl but if you leave the submit form and come back it in always does not auto-close on the first submit. I haven't opened and SR on this yet but was wondering if others are seeing this?

Thanks

Jody

I need to add to my message on the submit concurrent request issue above. I see this behaviour only when submitting requests through the 'view' request option. It does not happen if I submit from the 'run' request option. I found some notes on ML about this same issue that look like were an issue even prior to ATG.RUP7. There is a patch below that is only available for release 12 that I believe outlines the exact issue I'm seeing in our 11i issue after patching. Maybe an 11i version of the patch needs to be provided for us on 11i that have applied ATG.RUP7 assuming it is a valid condition that others are seeing.

Thanks,

Hi, Zaheer,

Glad to hear that nearly everything is working fine after your upgrade. Can you log a formal Service Request via My Oracle Support (formerly Metalink) to get one of our specialists engaged? Please feel free to forward your Service Request number to me if it gets stuck in the support process for some reason.

We are currently to AD.I.6 and ATG.RUP6, we are debating on whether we should apply AD.I.7 and ATG.RUP7 or just keep its current version. Is there any compelling reason to upgrade?
Thanks!
Manny

Hi, Manny,

I believe that the most compelling reason is that these .7 updates contain the latest security, performance, and stability bug fixes.

Your definition of compelling will likely differ from mine, though. You are likely the best judge of what _you_ might consider "compelling." One man's dross is another's treasure. I would recommend going through the READMEs for the latest .7 updates in detail. That should give you sufficient data upon which to make an informed decision as to whether these updates are worthwhile for your organization.

We have recently applied RUP 7 and are verifying the impact on applications. In IC application, there are couple of jsp page reports.
before RUP7, for negative values it was showing angular brakets, after RUP7 it is showing braces some thing end brace is missing.

Can any body guide me on this issues?

thanks in advance.

Zaheer

I too have successfully instaled RUP 7, and like you, after the patch was installed my concurrent manager status is showing down in OAM. But all concurrent managers and all application services are running fine. I have checked Metalink and no matches or patches appear to be available. Have you received a solution yet ?

Thanks for your reply,

“(Doc ID 743518.1) Starting up AS10g services in an EBusiness Suite Release 12 environment Issue 3 - Java Object Cache not initializing “ Suggest that changing the order of initializing EBS services would fix the logon issue (A temporary fix).

We have started services on the Web Node First, instead of services on Concurrent manager node to see if it makes any difference, luckily it did fix our issue.

We are able to bring up EBS instance and subsequently we could logon without any issues. Though the document intended for r12, in our case it is very helpful.

I know it is not a perfect solution;Currently we are at 11.5.10.CU2 and SR# with reference to this issue is 3-1549532241

post RUP 7 instances, printer driver command to invoke Adobe ghost script utility is having problems. the concurrent manager process dies without reason and the concurrent request completes with error. But there is no error message. The same printer driver command is working in pre-RUP 7 instance. The ghost script utility command works fine outside of the printer driver command arguments i.e. from system prompt or even if wrapped up as a host program and executed as a concurrent request. We have logged an SR 3-1624650241 for it, but just wanted to check if anything is known about printer driver command line issues post RUP 7.

Hi, Sai,

I'm afraid that I don't have any insight into what may be going on here. Good luck with your SR.

Hi Stephen

Just a update on what we found in our environment re my earlier comment on printer drivers. We have some custom printer drivers to do some system utility commands. These drivers were not configured to use an SRW Driver as it is an optional field and not required in these cases. Post RUP7, it appears that the concurrent manager process is abruptly killed if the SRW Driver field does not have a value in the printer driver configuration.

I have updated this observation in the SR and awaiting Oracle development response, but just thought I would share.

Hi Gurus,

We have applied the following Patch,
Oracle Applications Technology 11i.ATG_PF.H.delta.7 (RUP7) (Patch 6241631),

Thanks in Advance

Hi, Raghu,

There should be no impact on Oracle Financials after applying this patch, but you should follow your usual internal procedures for testing functional impacts on patches before rolling this out into production.

Regards,
Steven

Posted by Steven Chan on July 18, 2010 at 11:32 PM PDT #

Hi Raghu,

Any ATG Rollup 3,4,5,6, 7... Patches effect following modules.

ATG products are included in 11i.ATG_PF.H.delta.7: FND, OAM, OWF, FWK, JTT, JTA, TXK, XDO, ECX, EC, AK, ALR, UMX, BNE, and FRM.

Any other modules then above will not change any functionality but definitely other modules will effect by new technology so testing should be like on workflow, alert, xml publishers etc.....
