Silent Installation in Web Server 7
By srinik on May 18, 2006
Web Server 7 installation is possible in three modes: graphical, command-line and silent. Silent installation is a non-interactive mode that enables to run the installer on multiple hosts using an installer configuration file called statefile. The installer in silent mode is invoked using –silent option. After the silent mode is activated, installation takes place without any additional user input.
The installer configuration file (statefile) is created when the savestate option is used with the setup command to start an interactive installation. Settings are captured during the interactive installation and saved in a statefile. This forms the template for silent installation, which can be used to install the product on one or more systems. The statefile can be modified later and can be reused for other configuration.
At the end of installation, a file called statefile will be created under the installation directory. This file will act as statefile for future silent installation. The silent installation can be done with the following command
where <statefile> is the path of the file where the installer statefile exists
The above command does the installation without any interaction and at the end it displays the install information.
