The Container Guide 3.1 is finished. This guide was orignally developed in german. Starting with version 3.1 we also supply an english version, which motivated us to do the first english blog entry on Solarium.
This document explains Solaris Containers (Solaris zones) - how they work and how to use them.
The concept of this guide is to provide the information separated in different dimensions (= chapters) to allow the reader an approach to the information from his viewpoint (4D-Guide):
- Functionalities explains what is available with Solaris Containers and how it compares to other virtualization technologies.
- Use Cases is a collection of brief descriptions on how to use Solaris Containers for a purpose and which best practices are necessary or optional.
- Best Practices describe architectural decisions, procedures and methods to get the best from Solaris Containers in the datacenter.
- Cookbooks are practical recipes, a lot of them have examples for command sequences, which can directly be used to try it out.
The Container Guide 3.1 describes the functionality of Solaris 10 10/09 and the current status of containers in OpenSolaris. It is based on the german version which is called Container Leitfaden 3.1, download is available here:
