February 11, 2015: Developers Virtual Technology Summit

If you're familiar with the Oracle Technology Network's Virtual Sysadmin Days that have been held in the past, you know a bit about what this is about: a series of hands-on, proctored labs brought straight to your desktop on the web.

But did you know they've expanded in scope? Of particular interest to enterprise developers is that this time around, there's a track aimed straight at you.

This Wednesday, February 11th, Oracle will be holding a Virtual Technology Summit, and one of the tracks is on Oracle Solaris Studio.  That means you can go through a live, hands-on exercise with experts standing by to help you out, from the comfort of your home, office, or coffeehouse -- anywhere you can sit down and connect up.

Of note in this session: hands-on experience with the Code Analyzer for software analysis, and the Performance Analyzer for optimizing application performance.

Just as before, this event is free, although you do need to register, and there is some prep work you need to do beforehand, including downloading a virtual image.  Rick Ramsey explains what you need to know and do at the OTN Garage blog.

This day's event will run from 9 AM to 12:30 PM Pacific time, but click through to the registration page to see upcoming event dates that will run at times that may be more appropriate for your location (or circadian rhythms).

(By the way: not a C, C++ or Fortran kind of developer? Check out the parallel tracks on database, middleware and Java.)

Sign up now and start your prework, and join us on Wednesday!

March 18th, 2014: Virtual Sysadmin Day for Europe, Middle East, and Africa

In case you're new to this: the Oracle Technology Network Virtual Sysadmin Days are a series of hands-on, proctored labs for systems administrators, brought to you on the web.  They're free, although you do need to register, and there is some prep work you need to do beforehand.

The next one in the series is coming up on Tuesday, March 16th and will start at 9 AM GMT, so we're calling this the "Europe/Middle East/Africa" edition, although we never discriminate -- jump in from wherever you are then, and we'll be there.

As always, you'll have three tracks to choose from: Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux, and Oracle VM. The theme for this edition's Oracle Solaris session is the typical tasks and challenges of a sysadmin's daily life.

If you want to get a head start, there are some recordings of previous Virtual Sysadmin Day events on the Oracle Solaris YouTube Channel.

Register for the event, browse the recordings, do the prework, and join us on the 16th!

March 14: Virtual Sysadmin Day for Asia/Pacific region

The folks over at Oracle Technology Network (OTN) have been holding a very popular series of "Sysadmin Days" -- road shows for Oracle Solaris, Oracle Linux and Oracle VM, featuring a packed agenda of hands-on labs.  This was great news for people in certain cities, but what about the rest of the world?

Solved! Last month, they took the same material and put together a "Virtual Sysadmin Day", which by all accounts was a smashing success. Not only were the hands-on labs available for anyone to join in on from the comfort of the web, there were virtual proctors available to chat with during the event itself.

So far so good, but even on the intartubez, geography matters, what with timezones and whatnot. So on Thursday, March 14, the third Virtual Sysadmin Day will be held at an Asia/Pacific friendly start time: 9:30am (India) / 12noon (Singapore) / 3:00pm (Sydney).

(This is also excellent for, say, New York night owls who prefer to dig into such things at 11 PM.)

Like the previous Sysadmin Days, this is free, but you do need to register. One other thing: there's prework, so register now and make sure you're ready to go.
