Oracle Solaris Sessions at Oracle Openworld 2019
This year Oracle Openworld will take place from Monday, Sep. 16 to Wednesday, Sep. 19 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, and like in previous years many sessions will cover Oracle Solaris topics. Oracle Solaris will also be covered in a hands-on lab session on the first day in the afternoon, where we will demonstrate how to use REST to gather information about an Oracle Solaris instance
Here is a list of these sessions, with the list of presenters and when they will take place:
Oracle Solaris and SPARC: Consistent, Simple, Secure
In this session learn about the new capabilities in Oracle Solaris 11.4 and the current and future strategy for Oracle Solaris. See how Oracle Solaris and SPARC provide a consistent platform for your mission-critical workloads and why customers are moving to Oracle Solaris 11 today. Learn how our continuous delivery model makes it easier for you to adopt new capabilities, simplifies maintenance, and helps you better secure your data center while protecting your existing application investments. Discover the advanced features in Oracle SPARC that help secure your systems and applications, deliver zero overhead end-to-end encryption, and accelerate the performance of Oracle Database and enterprise applications.
(Bill Nesheim, Senior Vice President Oracle Solaris Development on Tuesday, Sep 17, 12:30pm-1:15pm and 3:15pm-4:00pm)
Pulling Analytics Data from Oracle Solaris Through the REST API
With the introduction StatsStore in Oracle Solaris 11.4 it's now possible to gather very rich data on application and system performance from a single location. Being able to pull this data into a data collection tool such as Nagios, Splunk, or Grafana gives a huge value to being able to monitor and maintain your systems. This hands-on lab explores how you can use the integrated REST API to collect this data from Oracle Solaris into a regular open source tool such as Nagios, and even collect combined database and system data.
(Joost Pronk Van Hoogeveen, Senior Principal Product Strategy Manager and Martin Mueller, Senior Principal Software Engineer on Monday, Sep. 16, 1:00pm-2:00pm)
Oracle Solaris: Simple, Flexible, Fast Virtualization
In this session hear about the latest developments in Oracle Solaris virtualization. Learn about the new features in the recent Oracle Solaris 11.4 release including the ability to define inter-VM dependencies on boot-up, single-step system evacuation, and storage live migration. Also learn about further enhancements to unique features such as read-only VMs (Immutable Zones), running VMs from shared storage, and the powerful network virtualization.
