[Also posted to OpenSolaris X Window System forum/mailing list.] To help whet your appetite while waiting for our source release, I've posted the change logs for the X Consolidation for the Nevada builds so far, so you can see what's changed since Solaris 10 already: http://opensolaris.org/os/community/x_win/changelogs/ For now, this is just a list of bug ids included in each build - once we get the source up, we can start including which files are changed for new builds. As...

[This text was originaly posted to Sun's internal security community inresponse to Radia Perlman asking if we could do better web security, Ithought it was worth sharing my thoughts with the rest of the world ]One of the things that we really should be trying to stamp out isallowing otherwise reputable sites to download pages with login screensover non https connections[1]. Many of them try to justify that theHTTP POST goes to an https URL but that doesn't matter one tiny bit...

I saw my first Galaxy class machine in the lab in Sun's Dublin offices today. A very impressive amount of compute power in such a small case. However that for me isn't the best thing, the best bit is that you can actually touch the metal parts of the hot swap components and the edges of the machine without getting cut. I know it isn't just me that finds their fingers get cut to shreds when taking a part generic and some other companies x86 machines. This was a problem I never...

A security hole in processing XCreatePixmap requests in the Xserver (known as “CAN-2005-2495”) was announced this week. This affects most X servers based on the original X11R6 code from the X Consortium at MIT, so we've released preliminary patches for the Xsun & Xorg servers in Solaris. These haven't had time to go through the full patch regression test process yet, so aren't in the main patch site for now, but in the special Preliminary Security T-patches area on SunSolve....

I'm really curious as to why gtkpod uses df(1) and parses the output to determine the available space. I would have expected statvfs(2) to be used instead since it avoids a fork/exec and parsing of output that is't the same on all systems.I haven't actually used recent versions of gtkpod since I bought a Mac mini when they came out so I use iTunes instead. However when I was using gtkpod I did patch my 0.85 source to use statvfs(2) instead. I've never take the time to learn...
