Iron Maiden

How cool would it be to see this the next time you travel?

I watched Iron Maiden's latest documentary this past weekend, Flight 666. What I found most impressive was that lead singer Bruce Dickinson pilots the tour plane! This is a Boeing 757 - not some simple Cessna. And If you've seen him on stage you'll wonder where he finds the energy to then fly a plane from Tokyo to Los Angeles.

So, what's any of this got to do with OpenSolaris? A friend of mine turned me on to the Iron Maiden font. Unlike the TrueType fonts, it's not in any IPS repository. In order to install it (or any other such font that you download), extract the maiden.ttf from the zip file and copy it to /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF.

pfexec cp maiden.ttf /usr/X11/lib/X11/fonts/TTF/

Once the font is in place, you'll be able to access it from your editor:

I kinda like this logo:

    Hey,

    alternatively you can do just

    mkdir -p ~/.fonts

    cp foobar.ttf ~/.fonts

Brian, thanks a lot for that post! I knew that Bruce is a pilot too. But I didn't know that Iron Maiden TT fonts. I very like them! Your OpenSolaris logo also is great! I think it can be official logo of the project ;)

Yeesh, that kerning is awful (read: non-existent). And people wonder why \*good\* fonts cost so much.
