Using Social Listening To Follow Cannes

When I described the thesis of this blog to my mom, Kate Donnelly Schneider, she said, “it doesn’t matter how much money you have, or who you know - using your ‘computer world’ you can take the status out of the most status-y event and really know what’s going on. Which is so cool!” 

Yes, mom. Using my computer world, I can understand a lot about Cannes Lions without ever setting foot in France. (Bummer.) We set up Oracle’s Social Relationship Management (SRM) platform to capture every instance of “Cannes Lions” on the internet. We listen to public posts on social media, message boards, news articles, comments, videos… a whole host of sources. From that raw data, we have distilled some insights.  

With the festival halfway over, here are the biggest takeaways: 

Sentiment moved slightly down as the festival got underway

Skews Slightly Male and American  

With One Tweet, Kim Kardashian Is The Top Influencer 

It’s Still Known As a Film Festival 

But Also, “Adserving”
