Unleash the power of Java API’s on your WLST scripts! By Maarten Smeets

clip_image001Oracle SOA Suite and many other Oracle products have extensive Java API’s to expose their functionality. WLST can often be used for relatively course grained actions. WLST (the version supplied in Weblogic 12.1.3) uses Jython 2.2.1. Jython is the Python scripting language implemented on the Java Virtual Machine. Jython allows easy integration with Java. In this article I describe how you can unleash the power of these Java API’s on your WLST scripts!
Considerations

Why WLST and not Java?

For system operators, WLST is easier to work with than Java code. For Java code you need to supply all dependencies in the classpath and updating code requires recompilation. Also Java code can be a bit verbose compared to WLST code and requires (for most developers) more time to write. With a WLST script you do not need to provide dependencies since they are already present in the classpath set by the wlst.sh (of wlst.cmd) command used to start WLST scripts and you can more easily update the scripts without need for recompilation.

Why use Java classes in WLST?

In this example I wanted to create a script which undeployed composites which where not the default revision (are not called by default). Also I wanted to look at the instances. I did not want to undeploy composites which had running instances (long running instances like BPM and ACM). WLST provides some nifty features to undeploy composites; https://docs.oracle.com/middleware/1213/soasuite/wlst-reference-soa/custom_soa.htm#SOACR2689 for example the sca_undeployComposite command. I did however not see WLST commands I could use to query instances.

Undeploying composites using Java

I started out with a piece of Java code shown below. In order to make the required classes available in your project, you need to import Weblogic Remote Client, JRF API and SOA Runtime (see here for a more elaborate example of using the Java API). With the Locator class you can find your composites and instances. By calling the MBean oracle.soa.config:Application=soa-infra,j2eeType=CompositeLifecycleConfig,name=soa-infra method removeCompositeForLabel you can undeploy composites from Java. Provisioning Oracle BPM Suite on Oracle Java Cloud Service free Tutorial

clip_image002This tutorial describes the process for extending an Oracle WebLogic Server domain on an Oracle Java Cloud Service instance with Oracle Business Process Management Suite (Oracle BPM Suite).

Oracle BPM Suite provides a complete set of tools that you can use to create, execute, and optimize business processes. Oracle Java Cloud Service enables you to use an Oracle WebLogic Server domain and set up your Oracle BPM Suite environment without worrying about the infrastructure or platform components. All Oracle Java Cloud Service instances are preconfigured to use your Oracle Database Cloud Service instance and an object storage container that you create in Oracle Storage Cloud Service.

Oracle Java Cloud Service provides a platform to develop and deploy business applications in the cloud. Oracle Java Cloud Service provides instant access to a cloud environment with Oracle WebLogic Server, integrated security, and database access.

What Do You Need?

To create a storage container, an Oracle Database Cloud Service instance and an Oracle Java Cloud Service instances, ensure that you have a subscription to each of the following:

  • Oracle Storage Cloud Service
  • Oracle Database Cloud Service (Database as a Service [DBaaS])
  • Oracle Java Cloud Service

Invoking REST Service from Oracle ACM Java Activity by Andrejus Baranovskis

clip_image002In this post I will show you, how to call REST service from ACM Java activity class method. This could be useful in the situations, when you would like to have programmatic ACM activity integrated with REST service data. We could access ACM payload data from within the method overriden in the class implementing Case Activity Callback.

ACM activity implemented on top of Java class, contains the same properties and configuration as the regular one. You could define input/output data, execution properties, etc.:

Sensor Networks with Java (Part I) by Enzo

clip_image002End of last year I've started to build a little Sensor Network that I've placed in my house. I never thought that many people are interested in that but I was wrong, nearly every time I did a presentation about that topic many people asked me for a blog post about the project...and here it is :)
First of all this is not really about a Smart Home or something similar, this is simply a project to monitor data (temperature in my case). The original idea was monitoring multiple cold stores which seems to be something that is really useful :)
But because I didn't had the cold stores I've decided to measure the temperature in nearly every room of our house.
The things I was interested in have been the behavior of the room temperature compared to the temperature outside. Does the temperature in the rooms follow the temperature outside of the house and how fast does it follow. To be able to compare those values I had to measure the conditions outside and in inside of the house.
Well measuring is one thing but you also have to analyze the data right? This means I needed to store the data somewhere and also needed to visualize the data somehow. Because I'm working from home I don't have a big server room where I can put a computer that acts as a server so one other requirement was to use as many embedded devices as possible in the whole setup (means for communication, storage, etc.).
Wife factor
One very important (if not most important) factor in the whole project was what I call the "Wife factor". When I've started with the project I've used hardware like Raspberry Pi, BeagleBoneBlack and Arduino Yun to measure the temperature in different rooms in our house. It worked very nice BUT most of these devices have some kind of status led or I/O led which is blinking all the time. In addition all of those devices needed a power supply which means you have to place them close to a power plug. When my wife saw all these lights blinking and wires lying around she was not very amused.
I figured out that as long as she does not see the so called Sensor Nodes everything is fine.
Size matters
That said one thing was pretty clear, the Sensor Nodes have to be small and they should run on batteries...for months!!! I've tried different hardware like Raspberry Pi, Arduino Yun, Arduino + XBee but all of these approaches did not really work out well.
The biggest problem was the need for a power supply which limited the location I could place the Sensor Nodes. In the end I've took a closer look to the XBee itself which looks like follows... Read the complete article here.
